They're both hugely popular Shonen Jump sports manga that are big in the Comiket circles. I don't see why you'd expect Haikyu to not sell well, its got everything going for it that Kuroko did as well.

Haikyu is a lot more realistic and less flashy than Kuroko. More in the vein of YowaPedal than Kuroko, those who like Haikyu praise it precisely for how it's more a Sports anime than the DBZ Basketball that Kuroko is. But because of it I seriously think Haikyu is more likely to pull off the 6k+ numbers YowaPedal had than the Kuroko numbers because it's not the type of badass Bishie filled series that can get fangirls going nuts over.

But most of the fans of Kuroko and Yowapeda likes Haikyuu as well, I think its possible to pull off a 10K+ its one of the most anticipated shows (at least for the ladies) this winter ^_^

Oneechan ga Kita is good. Not good enough to buy though I do buy a lot of shorts...

Tonari no Seki Kun however, I may have to buy now that the two discs each have a bonus episode AND now it seems the last 8 episodes won't be broadcast on TV. Otherwise I'm not sure I'll be able to see them, and that short has surprised me, really really good! DVD only kind of sucks but at least it's cheap, 77+ minutes per disc for 3800 yen each.

2014/03/22

0.4k Onee-chan ga Kita
Did they release the Bluray before all the episodes came out? We've only seen episode 10, perhaps we'll see 11 by the 22nd but not the 12th (final episode) I think.

Seems like it, I can't find any other versions on Stalker.

What is strange, aside from bd's coming out before all the eps are aired, is that the DVD is released on another date(2 April).

Ahhhh Oneechan ga Kita...that's a funny little show. Kind of cute, and enjoyable for a short.

Regarding Haikyuu!, I honestly don't know how well it will do.

On one hand, it's fanbase in Japan is comprised of the type of fans KuroBasu has. It's also already inspired it's own doujin events before it's anime was announced. Not to mention, if we compare, it's selling more pre-anime than how KuroBasu used to sell pre-anime.

On the other hand we have another example of a popular JUMP manga which is doing quite badly in sales this Winter, Nisekoi. It was selling almost as much as Haikyuu! before it's anime and it was promoted heavily by Shueisha(definitely more than the promotion Haikyuu! got for it's anime) but volume 1 will probably end up selling ~3.5k - 4k. And that's with an event ticket. Volume 2+ will probably sell ~2k -2.5k. But still, Nisekoi caters to a whole different fanbase.

Below 10k does not mean it won't sell well.

The reason I don't think it will reach 10k is because its a daytime show, I can't even think of the last time a daytime show reached 10k.

Gintama? Magi?

Magi did not reach 10k, so only gintama. I think you can also include FMA:B. I think those are pretty much all of the 10k+ daytime shows in the last 5 years that I know off.

I'd say the ods are in favor of it not selling 10k. It can obviosly happen, but with only around 10k of all shows reaching 10k, it being a day-time, and popularity does not always translate to BD/DVD sales(oh hey, Silver spoon). I'm placing my bets on it not selling 10k, since it seems far more likley.

Gintama? Magi? Ao no Exorcist?

Those female series can sell well regardless of daytime or late night

Spring should be a lot better for sellers, at least. I'm expecting Love Live 2, JoJo 2, Mahouka, Mekaku City Actors and Haikyu to all do 10k+. There might be one or two others that make it up there as well.

A daytime show? doing 10k? What are you basing that on?

Do you mean Haikyu? Its the exact same demographic as Kuroko, and same studio. I'd expect it to be a big seller among those fans

Yes.

What studio does it does not have a big effect on sales, and demographics do not mean something will turn into a hit. So many shows with the same demographic did not even hit 10k.

Gjbu OVA and DAL2 having good starts. Really early solicit and only 5 volumes consisting of 10 episodes?!
Didn't notice Madoka is now back at the top of the animation category rankings.

So anyway, Chuu2 or Hozuki or Mikakunin? Who will take the top.

Hozuki because it has lots of DVDs as well.

GJ-bu@ went up on Amazon.jp, I hope it has a good performance.

Speaking of GJ-bu the boxset (er single disc set whatever) is estimated at nearly 6.9k four days out from release which is utterly insane considering the show only averaged 3.3k.

It's not KMB-level rise (box sold 5x singles) even if the estimate is correct (which is questionable, the singles were Amazon-biased so there's little reason this wouldn't be too), but that's a lot harder to do when you sold 3.3k vs 1k.

* Of course it's worth noting the whole season is being sold for the price of one disc of normally priced anime which makes it much less impressive in revenue terms, but still impressive in terms of increase in the number of people who decided to buy it.

The show deserves it, so its nice too see it getting some more money.
