According to IT media, Urawanishi High School, on which "Ookiku Furikabutte" was modeled, became highly popular among the students. As a result, the competitive rate of this year's entrance examination reached 7.13, which is the highest of all the public high schools in Saitama Prefecture. The producers of the anime provided one of the scenes to the high school and it has been used in the handbook and the official website.

"Ace wo Nerae!" was also modeled on Urawanishi High School.

The local government of Saitama Prefecture is trying to catch tourists' attention taking advantage of its relations to anime. The official website of Saitama Tourism Bureau introduces "Lucky ☆ Star" and "Crayon Shin-chan" to foreign tourists.

I'm a little late on the commenting, but this is actually really cool. Huge potential for anime companies to get advertising dollars by using a 'real' school in their shows. It's not like the viewer cares what school is being used for the show, but the actual school in question can get some big name recognition.

Pretty interesting, although not surprising. Kinda reminds me of the rise in attendance rates at the Lucky Star Shrine :P.

Great for this school ! But my question is: is that a coincidence that both Ace wo Nerae and Ookiku Furikabutte, which may be the two best sport animes ever (except the two boxing animes Hajime no Ippo and Ashita no Joe), are modeled after the same school?

Because Yamamoto Sumika and Higuchi Asa graduated from Urawanishi High. Arai Satomi and the "Mother of Seiyuu" Shimizu Mari (VA of Tetsuwan Atom) also graduated from the school.

wow thats pretty impressive. I had heard it was modeled on a real school but hadn't really heard anything about the school. Good for them then.

the fact that urawanishi is modeled after anime wouldn't make me want to go there... i'd want to go there because they don't wear uniforms.
that would make me not want to go there ;A; but i would want to go to school with mihashi and abe and be friends with chiyo~
i'm glad it's an excellent school.
