ADV is now streaming the over-the-top trailer for The Wallflower, or as most of us know it, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. You can watch the beauty repulsed horror fanatic and the beauties that share a mansion with her when the first DVD volume for the anime ships on December 18.

Did anyone else hear the narrator at the beginning? He said "Four beautiful by-shounen..." ROFL Mispronounciation or intentional, it was quite funny. :P

x3 Oh yeah, I was all "WTF"ing for a second, because I didn't understand what he said. Then it clicked. And I laughed so hard.

It means something in Japanese that doesn't translate to English...they opted to rename it completely to avoid confusing US fans, I assume.

Actually Wallflower is the title of the manga. Perfect Girl Evolution is the translation of the anime title. Why ADV didn't use Perfect Girl Evolution for the anime I have no clue.

That trailer was more than a little misleading. But seriously, what're you going to do? ADV doesn't exactly pull punches whenever it goes on a marketing spree.

but why can't they just subtitle it and call it an import, pretty please?

I wish they would, oh how I and my sense of hearing wish they would.

Heh...I thought it was kind of funny. :P

Urg... I knew I shouldn't have watched the trailer, I knew it. I'm definitely not impressed, but not really surprised either. I'm pleased to see that it's being brought to the US... but why can't they just subtitle it and call it an import, pretty please?

why is it that some series's have their name changed while others do not?

I have often thought that too. I don't know why. On this site I think it is usually the most common version of the title that the DB mods choose to use. Other places may use the other form. Maybe it boils down to which version, translated or japanese, sounds better. Like you say, you hate "When they Cry" so maybe many more people do too and thats why most english speaking people refer to it as Higurashi.

In the case of this show I think it would have been better if the titled it Perfect Girl Evolution. Its still a dopey title but not as complicated as Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge and not as banal or as ineffectual as The Wallflower.

As for the name itself, it is pretty boring and when I read the original news post I saw no pics and had no idea what show they were talking about until I read a description and thought the story sounded familiar. I had forgotten about it getting licensed. The Wallflower just didn't seem like a title that fit for this series. But it is easier to remember.

i mean, there are plenty of purists (me not included) who only call Lucky Star "Raki Suta", but here it goes by the Wnglish name, what about "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", which also is not the official Japanese name. Also with Higurashi, its on here as Higurashi even though the original author refers to it as "When they Cry" (which, I personally hate, but I'm not the author)

why can't you guys change the name for the wall flower

Be serious yamato nadeshiko shichi henge is a huge freaking name and to be honest I much prefer the english name because of the huge long name it's ridiculous.

Why can't you take your negative jabs at everyone else that like anything about anime remaining at least a bit Japanese and just can it before you get your posting privileges revoked. Just because you are too lazy to read subtitles or learn the language doesn't mean everyone else is. Some people prefer the fact that these works originate from somewhere else and can appreciated it in spite/because of it.

Furthermore, the only reason I mention the original name is because, quite literally, it is what everyone already knows it as since that is THE ORIGINAL NAME. How is everyone to know what it is when the name is changed unless you state what it was previously.

I agree...the Wallflower is pretty "blah"...and not even completely accurate.

There's longer out there dude. In fact it's also shorter than say Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The good, the bad and the ugly, voyage to the bottom of the sea, Something Wicked This Way Comes... The Fast and The Furious. Well only in the word area, it still outclasses them in number of syllables. :p
In all seriousness "The Wallflower" sounds boring, and realistically there can only be so many 'The Somethings". Though I will give them some respect in that they just renamed it and didn't bother trying to make the translation make sense.
