New Anime K-ON! Announced [Updated on Dec 26]

According to NewType magazine, a four-frame manga "K-ON! (Keion!)" will be animated. The airing schedule and the production info were not given.

K-ON! has been published in Manga Time Kirara magazine since May 2007. It's about four high school girls who are trying to revive a light music club, which was about to be closed.

Note: K-ON stands for Kei (light) Ongaku (music).

It does have a very KyoAni look, but I think I'm going to guess Brains Base on this. Maybe it's because it looks a little like Kamichu!...

The overall concept of the anime is pretty good, four high school girls reviving the music club and starting a rock band featuring interesting songs. The sample character design looks okay. I wonder how the cast of seiyuu will be and whether it will actually feature songs rather than episodes of comedy and drama. Currently, I get the impression of it being a crossover between "NANA" and "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya".
