ICv2 has released a list of the top 25 North American manga properties for the first and second quarters of 2011. The chart is based on interviews with retailers, distributors, and manufacturers.

I'm not surprised by the first four manga series.

Plus I love the U.S. as it's my country but seriously...if the Japanese censor porn we don't and if we censor our comics they don't? I don't see this happening in American comics either. Some of it is just not necessary. Keep One Piece for instance clearly Japanese (I'm a huge fan so no matter what I'll keep buying) Toriko as well but it's tough. People here should really hush about it been reading manga here for about a decade yet we still are greatly lacking in manga compared to certain countries. I read a lot online but somethings I'd rather buy. Hopefully this changes.

I know for a fact Gintama's translations by viz or a little iffy as well.

YEa it was iffy in some areas but they cancelled it which irritated me as im a big fan of the manga and anime ( i dont always want to go online to watch the anime but own first 49 eps)

Why is that a surprise? Shoujo manga has always done better than shounen in the US. Sure, Naruto will always be at the top, but in overall terms, shoujo wins out.

I'm actually kind of surprised with this.

1) One Piece isn't even in the top 10.

2) Highschool of the Dead is on there. (I'd heard it was terrible.)

3) Ao no Exorcist isn't on there. (I thought there was a lotta hype for this one?)

4) K-ON! is on there. (I thought the anime was more popular than the manga; I've never heard of anyone saying they loved the manga or even read it.)

5) Yotsuba&! is on there. (I love it, so I'm happy, but I didn't think it was that popular.)

Other than that, yeah, everything seems as was expected. A lot of my favourite titles are up there, so I'm happy. ^_^

Actually, I've just read only 4 - 5 series of this chart. And I have to admit that American's taste is quite peculiar

I guess some people here didn't know that likes and dislikes are subjective. Congrats to Viz for doing so well, and I hope that they continue their awesome streak!

People who follow the weekly sales chart for North America wouldn't find this surprising one bit.

I knew this was for North America when I saw this at the 11 spot.

Not much else to say, I think pretty much nothing on this list caught anyone majorly off guard or surprised anyone.

Only read/am reading 8 of these series.

Kind of surprised to see K-ON! at 24, I guess it helps that I've bought all three volumes that have been released so far.

So many people complaing about America's taste. It shouldn't be surprising the series that have the more high profile anime adaptations will usually sell better, except when it comes to shoujo, as is the case with Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, Death Note, etc. And America, as well as the rest of the world outside Japan, has such a smaller selection of manga to choose from to begin with.

It's still better than seeing One Piece at first place over and over again by a massive margin.

not really surprised that naruto and bleach are up high. thats really what i usually see in most book stores when i go shop. the whole naruto and bleach seriesand prob multiple copies of each book too.
