I'm not surprised by the first four manga series.

We need more licensed manga. More manwha too.

Things like Shamo, Zetman, Worst, Sun-Ken Rock.

Plus I love the U.S. as it's my country but seriously...if the Japanese censor porn we don't and if we censor our comics they don't? I don't see this happening in American comics either. Some of it is just not necessary. Keep One Piece for instance clearly Japanese (I'm a huge fan so no matter what I'll keep buying) Toriko as well but it's tough. People here should really hush about it been reading manga here for about a decade yet we still are greatly lacking in manga compared to certain countries. I read a lot online but somethings I'd rather buy. Hopefully this changes.

I know for a fact Gintama's translations by viz or a little iffy as well.

YEa it was iffy in some areas but they cancelled it which irritated me as im a big fan of the manga and anime ( i dont always want to go online to watch the anime but own first 49 eps)

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm surprised that three of the top six are shoujo manga. I was kind of expecting all the Shonen Jump series to dominate the entire list.

And glad to see Pandora Hearts up there, of course. =}

Why is that a surprise? Shoujo manga has always done better than shounen in the US. Sure, Naruto will always be at the top, but in overall terms, shoujo wins out.

It is shit, not a single thing about it is good.

You've got one of the most serious cases of "needs to fucking get over themselves" I've seen in quite a while. Christ. (And no, I'm not rushing to defend HSotD, I have no interested in it one way or another.)

I'm sorry, I automatically disregard anything said by somebody who's rated the Fairy Tail anime 9 out of 10.

Yeah, that's a rather bad case of elitism.

hhahaha americans have bad taste

This list is super limited by what is licensed and the fact that most Americans will read manga online.

I'm actually kind of surprised with this.

1) One Piece isn't even in the top 10.

2) Highschool of the Dead is on there. (I'd heard it was terrible.)

3) Ao no Exorcist isn't on there. (I thought there was a lotta hype for this one?)

4) K-ON! is on there. (I thought the anime was more popular than the manga; I've never heard of anyone saying they loved the manga or even read it.)

5) Yotsuba&! is on there. (I love it, so I'm happy, but I didn't think it was that popular.)

Other than that, yeah, everything seems as was expected. A lot of my favourite titles are up there, so I'm happy. ^_^

Yeah really, I agree Leave America alone, we haven't been bitching about other people's taste, why pick on us?

Hes pretending to be those assholes who think if it doesnt match there opinion then they are wrong.

Hardly understand the American's taste of manga

no comment about the first 2 manga

But OP ranked 11 is unaccecptable (It must be the 1st one)

Actually, I've just read only 4 - 5 series of this chart. And I have to admit that American's taste is quite peculiar

Viz Split the Dragon ball manga in 2 why Toriyama never ment it to be in

You missed the point completely.

I guess some people here didn't know that likes and dislikes are subjective. Congrats to Viz for doing so well, and I hope that they continue their awesome streak!

People who follow the weekly sales chart for North America wouldn't find this surprising one bit.

*4 Black Butler (Yen Press)

This one was a pleasant surprise, I hadn't been tracking the numbers, didn't expect it to hit the top 5.

*6 Black Bird (Viz Media)

Huh....no comment

*9 Dragonball & DBZ (Viz Media)

LOL this will not die, I'll be 80 and this will still sell well.

11 One Piece (Viz Media)

I knew this was for North America when I saw this at the 11 spot.

Not much else to say, I think pretty much nothing on this list caught anyone majorly off guard or surprised anyone.

Only read/am reading 8 of these series.

Kind of surprised to see K-ON! at 24, I guess it helps that I've bought all three volumes that have been released so far.

So many people complaing about America's taste. It shouldn't be surprising the series that have the more high profile anime adaptations will usually sell better, except when it comes to shoujo, as is the case with Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, Death Note, etc. And America, as well as the rest of the world outside Japan, has such a smaller selection of manga to choose from to begin with.

It's still better than seeing One Piece at first place over and over again by a massive margin.
