Caught up on 1/29/24 and I might or might not keep up with new chapters anyway. Some of the art is crazy but I don't really give a shit about the story or characters at all, it's all so immature (I should probably just continue reading Berserk already, I get the feeling that's what some of the stuff like the Darkness Devil is inspired by). There's really nothing at all I liked about the Reze arc, it's just nothingness to me (he meets a girl, she turns out to be bad, they fight, she gets away, she gets killed later and it's a little sad maybe but IDC), and I basically feel the same way with how Part 1 concluded. Also shit like gun ownership leading to a gun devil to be so feared that every country implemented gun control is fucking ghey. Even though I like some art I'm not sure I like how some fights are choreographed in the panels if that makes sense, but MAYBE they'll look good if MAPPA handles them like they're doing with JJK without the CGI chainsaw head, since it'll be a different director after all. It's just this is what people have been hyping up? I don't get it sorry. I feel weird about not rating it any higher than 5/10 when it was so quick and not really any trouble for me to read, but like it's just trash. But I continued to read out of curiosity and Part 2 is a little more interesting and pretty damn funny, though probably going down a route a bit too similar to Devilman (huh now that I think about it CSM was too on the nose with the name and devil hybrid concept all along wasn't it). Apparently people who loved Part 1 now hate Part 2 so I don't understand that either, Asa's not that bad.

Caught up on 10/14/23. I wouldn't even know where to start talking about this lol. Honestly when I watched the anime first I thought it was 7/10 until I got to the chimera ants but when I read the manga I loved it the full way through and noticed immediately how Kite had been at the beginning of the manga all along, I hadn't realized. If this image is actually accurate then that probably explains why I didn't love the anime from the beginning, I don't remember most of that but I definitely felt the manga was superior which is why I've rated it 10. I kinda hate the succession war arc though lol, too many fucking words, I immediately noticed how many chapters I was reading an hour massively slowed down, there's too many characters and irrelevant plot threads when Kurapika's done little so far. It's getting more interesting with the Phantom Troupe and even that flashback tells me there's more we never found out about them, assuming it ever has a chance to be told.

Caught up on 2/15/24. It's probably kinda shallow, I don't hate any characters at least, but it's very "hype" and I love these types of fights, very technical with barrier rules and bullshit powers (that's a complement in my head at least). The art is messy but I like how the action is choreographed and can tell the anime is going to go fucking crazy with it when they do the culling game and Maki vs the Zen'in clan and beyond. Has some ideas I find at least a bit interesting, Gojo is like Superman not only in power but his affect on politics, the villains have to come up with some Lex Luthor-esque plan to seal him. Something about Sukuna is just done right, nothing about him makes me feel "ow the edge", he's very analytical, he's kind of like Thanos (idk if making capeshit comparisons is good for convincing people tho). I also like this type of setting in general, modern day in our world but fighting happens unknown to society (until a city is wiped off the map), kinda like JoJo how stands are a self-keeping secret. It also scratches that itch I have for anime with levels of destruction actually comparable to DBZ (or Man of Steel), a lot of stuff gets compared to DBZ like YYH, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece but none of those have characters that can casually destroy a city or even the moon and actually do it (since it's not really the point of those works). All the fights in the culling game are cool and characters introduced don't feel unnecessary. There's even a Bobobo fight transplanted into what's usually a serious battle manga and it works. But it's just a lot of ideas, it doesn't reach something like HxH in characters or themes despite being a big influence, at least even Naruto tried to have themes about war and nuclear weapons and talk no jutsu. I guess one of the more interesting plots is the flashback arc with Geto but he was already killed off in Vol. 0 before the series even began, Kenjaku's just a different guy entirely and I don't think the series is going to be able to pull off a "freeing humanity from cursed energy" ending in its current direction either. One thing I do find dumb is cursed techniques are entirely innate, as in only genetically inherited? But some characters just happen to awaken to a CT that strongly ties to their profession like a lawyer or comedian. Other CTs seem hard to imagine they would have been passed down for a thousand years like the 24fps one when it's so strongly tied to a modern invention like animation.

As I read the later volumes I had the disappointing realization I didn't find it very funny at that point, so I had to give it a lower rating than the show which is still one of my favorites. Originally finished reading August 4th 2020 until I realized in 2023 that it had resumed in 2021.

Caught up on 11/13/23. Better adaptation than the anime for pretty much all the arcs, however the editors told the illustrator to skip the deep blood and angel fall arcs even though he expected to adapt them, and at 1 chapter a month it's still gonna take like 5 years before it's finished with the OT series, maybe they should've got another artist to start adapting the NT series simultaneously years ago (and then even a GT series adaptation could've started already too). Chapters 188 and 189 recently were only 15 pages when the chapters are usually 30, I don't know if something's suddenly going on for the mangaka and that's going to be the new norm even though it's a monthly.

Caught up on 8/28/19. Every chapter's always a treat, it's just really funny yuri comedy and the characters are so nice to each other, it's really sweet and uplifting. The wide 4koma style is so nice, I haven't seen other manga do that.

I originally rated this 9 since I love the show and I must've thought the first 3 volumes were pretty funny but then I didn't read it for 3 years, a few more chapters got translated in that time and I didn't find them funny once I read them, so I'm afraid I might not like it anymore if I reread it lol.
