I still don’t get why Asakura said ‘I was created for that’ on 18 December. Just as I don’t get how Yuki could control Haruhi’s power.

There are two main theories of what happened on 18–21 December, and Itsuki mentions them both. One assumes that timelines (i. e. worlds) can bifurcate; then Yuki forked the timeline and changed the world in the alternate timeline, however it is unclear what she did when requested to ‘return the world to normal’. The other assumes that there is always a single timeline; then the world was changed on 18 December and on 21 December, fabricating all memories about these three days. In both cases, Yuki restored the world with the help of her future self, creating yet another predestination paradox. However, there is another possibility regarding all these events that I would like to highlight: that Kyon’s memories were fabricated as well, and in reality nothing like that ever happened. But this leads us to the question of what can be called existing in the first place…
