Retelling the story of the game, Legend of Mana centers around Toto, who has to save the mana tree from withering completely. Welcome to the Zarlburg Royal Magic Academy—producers of the best alchemists in the world! When Marie, Zalburg's prodigal daughter and premier alchemist, returns to her alma mater after thrilling journeys in many foreign lands, she suddenly realizes things are not too exciting at home. But all that changes after running into fellow alchemist Elie, who has plans to open an alchemy workshop and become famous. Now, adventure comes to them in all shapes and sizes—curious elves, flying broomsticks, giant monsters, and explosive bombs.

This history happens at a place called "Parallel Planet" located above the sky and down the sea. This planet is divided in twelve worlds, in such way that if it seems like a clock. In the center of this clock, exists the "Needle tower," A place where the time doesn't run, The World Zero. In each "world" there is a Great Child (or G.C.), that is something like the guardian of that world. The Great Child is always accompanied by a spirit, which is an explosive, espheric side-kick that helps to defeat the Monster Troublemakers. Bucky, the protagonist of the history, is a normal boy that lives in the first world. He lives with a single and humble ambition: to dominate the world (in the sense of the whole planet). He is very certain and he would certainly die to reach his dream. One day he meets with Spark, the Great Child of Primas (World One). Spark is known as the strongest Great Child of all of the worlds, and he is on a successor's search. After finding Bucky and talking a little with him, Spark, without apparent reason, chooses Bucky as his successor. Bucky has just become a Great Child and to wins the company of Jibaki, the spirit of the first world. Since then, Bucky comes out to travel the twelve worlds and to accomplish his dream of dominating the world, with their friends (or like he would say, slaves) that he finds in the world. Many different anthropomorphic predator and prey species are intermingling in a fantastical African savanna society! It is a strictly structured society with many rules, such as those governing when and where a predator is allowed to hunt their prey. One lion, Leon, doesn't quite fit into the role nature has chosen for him. He doesn't grow his mane out, and, despite his physical strength, he shows no real interest in establishing territory and acquiring a harem of lionesses. But the most abnormal quirk of all is that Leon is a vegetarian lion! His tiger companion (who has a bit of a crush on him), is firmly of the opinion that herbivores exist to be eaten, but she manages to mostly put up with his vegetarianism. One day, the two of them rescue a frightened gazelle, freshly arrived from the capital. The tiger is less than thrilled to have a pretty female food-animal hanging around with them, but the jackals who are tracking the gazelle seem to have some kind of business with Leon as well...
