I am a sucker for Isekai even though I usually think the stories are sub-par. However, this story has me wrapped around its finger.

The characters are written very well especially the MC. She does not go into the world with the standard OP powers it seems like all Isekai protagonists have. She has even more disadvantages than advantages but she still strives toward her goal. Plus the dad becomes such a great character later on in the story.

It gives me all the feels. Sometimes when I turn the page and see the next scene my heart skips a beat. You don't think that a character ... is struggling as bad as they are and then you see them broken down and it really hits you hard.

I love this story so much. I watched the first to episodes of the anime then binged the rest of the manga. I did not have high expectations for it at first but I was very surprised by how it turned out.

Honzuki no Gekokujou is... alright! My enjoyment, as with other reviewers was severely knee capped by the emotionally turbulent and inwardly focused main character. Her family, who she apparently loves dearly, is living in what appears to be abject poverty. But, despite all the earnings that the main character receives for pulling knowledge from her previous life out of her ass, they don't appear to undergo any appreciation in their material conditions through out the story... I will also agree that the main character does not read as hugely intelligent (which is noted by the story itself) as she frequently does not learn from previous ... mistakes. Her biggest misstep is the continual undervaluing of the intellectual property of her previous life, with her frequently earning only a few gold coins when it is noted by other characters in the story that she could have certainly got more. Fair enough not having a personality that is suited for wringing out the possible capital from every situation, but your family is certifiably impoverished!!!

I also have a personal gripe with the characters obsession with books. Really? Do obsessional, voracious readers have a fetish for "books" as some nebulous physical concept? I don't think so. Generally people have preferences for genre and content, not to just simply READ ANYTHING WRITTEN DOWN ON ANYTHING REMOTELY RESEMBLING A PHYSICAL SURFACE. She literally has the aim to produce her own books. Who on earth wants to be surrounded by just books that they have written? I would have much preferred if this character had an obsession with "knowledge". It would have fit perfectly fine with the narrative of the story with only minor tweaks required and it would also explain why she has so much random knowledge of manufacturing processes despite living in modernised Japan (but then again, she reads "books" doesn't she xDDD)

My feelings do trend positive with this series though and I enjoy the small moments like seeing peoples reactions to her random little inventions and the side characters generally.

Surprisingly, it is incredibly well done, and might as well be one of the best "modern isekai" animes and mangas out there.

You see, the standard mistake a modern isekai does is going through routine processes of game like abilities, guild ranks and so on. Sometimes it has few core ideas, but once those played out, it starts falling apart.

This is not the case here. It is one of the titles where rather than focusing on power fantasies, explosions and harems, the script decided to stick to the story and see it through. The world looks incredibly believable, albeit definitely quite tough, characters have convincing personalities ... and motivation, and there are no overpowered abilities to get in your way. At the same time, the world is definitely magical, even odd, and at the same time the manga provides explanations when needed. It is really good.

Story: 7/10
One of the few well written modern reincarnation isekai mangas. Convincing world, enough magic when needed, explanations when needed, and focus on the story without getting distracted by power fantasies and the like. It is good.

Art: 6/10;
I liked the art, but it didn't take my breath away. It has well drawn architecture and serves its purpose, but is not incredible. Still, there are mangas that look worse.

Characters: 7/10:
Convincing, life-like characters that are hard to trace to archetypes, with believable interactions between them. Main character is annoying in the beginning, due to pushing too hard for the the idea of books, but overtime I got used to it.

Enjoynment: 7/10
I definitely liked it. It is slow paced, slow development, with enough trivia and information, and occasional slightly darker pieces (but not too dark). Very wlell portrayed lower-tech low-magic world.

Overall: 7/10

I recommend to check it out. It is one of the well written mangas out there.

I think this is a fairly good story and especially compared to other stories that feature a female MC reincarnating at a young age. Really, There's just one issue.

That's the boys. I don't like them and feel they take too much screen time. I am more interested in the MC making all these inventions with the help of her sister or by herself.

Something is really interesting about how the story portrays medieval time. It's more of what a realistic look at the time period then you see in most stories.

I was also wanting her to start making her products and become a ... high class noble. I want to see her and her family get out of poverty and become really popular. Hell, She can even get access to lots of books this way.

I hope to see more of this in the future with less of the boys in this. The girls in this are just more interesting. Hell, I do think it'd be fun seeing her grow up.

I also hope to god that there isn't any romance ( Unless Yuri cause you know) I am actually wanting something like a harem of girls around the MC except just have it be friends and what not.

An isekai that I didn't think I would love so much.
It has such a different premise than most isekai's, it really is refreshing.
MC is reborn to a poor as a young, ill child who loved books. Although she doesn't have OP powers like most isekai protags, she has her past knowledge.

Story 8: As the story progresses, and she miraculously isn't so bedridden anymore, she makes it her goal to create books. She has the aid from her loving family and neighborhood friends. One thing dominos into another and she becomes quite the talk of town, and enters the merchant world.
Art 8: Simple and ... cute. It also gives you a good feel of that fantasy, medieval setting
Character 9: All characters are wonderful. You have supportive parents and friends and real feel interactions between them.
Overall 8: Some say that her obesssion with books is a little crazy, but the manga is called "Ascendance of a Bookwork". I would give an overall try, and its her progress to her goals are the true winners of the story.
