The first couple of chapters were okayish. They were meant to develop the new world with androids and stuff. After Kawaki's introduction, the story became really interesting and it remained that way until Isshiki's death. Where i begin? this sequel that follows the enormously popular shonen Naruto, its to be honest mediocre at best, the mangaka doesnt know how properly distribute the panels in one page, and that kills the momentum almost in every sfight oriented chapter. It is sad for grand part of us that grow fond of naruto in our youths, and that we follow this manga for the sake of loyalty.

Art 3/10: The fashion and round face desing that Ikemoto tries to put simply does not fit well, the design of the manga and anime characters are very different.

I deleted my previous Boruto manga review because I felt like it didn't really reflect my feelings on the manga any longer. A few years have passed and the Boruto fanboy in me has disappeared. I've learned to love what there's good about Boruto, but also I dislike that which is to blame. Giving you all some context, I used to love Naruto back in the day, but after the time skip, every thing just fell apart, and I stopped watching. A show about ninja's shouldn't try to be DBZ, and a story about a ninja boys coming of age story should at least allow the plot to give the boy some breathing room to develop. Instead we got the clusterfuck that was shippuden.

Boruto, while not perfect, gives you a story similar to what Naruto used to be. You could argue that Boruto is whiny and insufferable, but his attitude makes sense given his age and upbringing, and ... he doesn't take long to mostly conquer his daddy issues, which could be taken as a good thing or a bad thing. I honestly like how he's more laid back and a bit smarter than Naruto was. On the other hand, I don't like how they lazily made his motivation "I want to be like Sasuke!". Still, if it gives him some good moments between Sarada who DOES want to become the Hokage, I can roll with it. I also don't like how his eyes have to be some new hybrid variant that's super relevent to the plot. Hinata's eye trick was simple, cool, and it even gave her cool bulging eye veins. Would that not have been enough for Boruto? Sure, his teammate Sarada also has an eye trick, but they could have maybe found a way to explore th differences between the sharingan and byakugan and maybe allowed the two to work together and get around each others weaknesses.

Most of the other characters are a problem, and until they develop enough I'm going to label them as forgettable ripoffs. The first main villian was absolutely terrible, and the story so far has mainly put the focus on Boruto and Sarada. Sarada is to Sakura what Boruto is to Naruto, and while she is kind of a ripoff, she lacks some of the negative qualities Sakura had, and right off the bat she actually gets opportunities to fight, not only that, she's actually good at it. Let's hope she doesn't get shoved to the side like Sakura was.

The story has it's ups and downs so far, and also has inconsistencies. For example, I'm not sure I follow Naruto's train of thought when he was scolding his kid so hard. When Naruto was a kid he had a super powerful demon fox sealed inside him that he could rely on when shit hit the fan. He comes off as a hypocrite. I'm also not a fan of how Boruto is given a marking similar to how Sasuke got one. But hidden within the worse parts are nice little gems that made Naruto good back in the day. Sasuke's "loser" quote is a good example of this. The story is nothing special, but it does have a bit of charm.

There are also little things I enjoy. Boruto can actually make a rasengan without relying on a clone to help him. Remember how it was hinted that Naruto was supposed to learn that, but they never let him have that? Boruto also seems less rely less on the clone technique than Naruto did. Let's hope he can learn a bunch of new techniques instead of using the same ones over and over again like his father did. I'm also hoping his eyes don't give him a "super powered evil side" like Naruto's fox abilities. I'm also hoping that Boruto will be given the opportunity to raise up in the ranks like his father was supposed to.

Now for the final part: Would I recommend it? If you enjoyed Naruto back in the day but hate what it became, you might find a bit of enjoyment in this...for now. This story could just as easily go south like the original did, especially the first battle in Boruto is a sign of what's to come. If you're not looking for that nostalgia factor the original series did however, I'd have to say no. There are much better shounen stories out there. Here's hoping that Boruto learns from some of the mistakes it's predecessor had.

After a long time, I decided to give Boruto a chance. As many, I've been a long-time Naruto fan and had heard how awful the continuation was. I wanted to see for myself and I can now confirm that Boruto is neither good nor as bad as some people say.

Let's look at the different aspects of the manga.

Firstly, the storyline. From the first moment, we are warned that this story will not be about Naruto, but about his son. That's the most important thing that the reader ought to keep in mind. The story revolves around a new main character and the world ... he lives in, which is way different than before. I appreciate the inclusion of technology and how it is acknowledged that this new generation has been born in a peaceful world, unlike their parents. It was them who built this new world for them, so it is not a bad thing that they are able to enjoy their lives as children. Then we are presented with the whole Ohtsutsuki conflict, which takes up most of the story. The issue here is that everything seems to be moving too fast. Not only do the characters get sudden power-ups (I'll talk about that later), but we are suddenly presented with enormous threats, one after the other. This seems a bit too much after the firsts arcs, where Boruto simply befriends a spoiled child or tries to gain his father's approval. It makes the story quite suffocating.

Following this, we have some other problems with the characters themselves. I'm not specifically referring to Boruto, who experiences a nice development over the first arcs of the story. The issue here seems to be that the author is not able to create memorable characters. For the sake of the argument, I will here mention Akatsuki - although it is not my intention to compare both series. What I'm trying to say is that those were characters that left an impression on the readers' mind, whereas no character in Boruto succeeds to do that. Yes, Boruto and Kawaki are good MCs, but the other secondary characters are poorly written. There's no depth to any of them, except those two. Moreover, the older generation seems to have become utterly useless. Naruto and Sasuke are easily overpowered by any villain - all of whom posses crazy, god-like abilities - and Hinata has apparently ceased to be a ninja. This whole "god-like power" is true for the young shinobi as well. All of them seem to have already figured out how to use some truly powerful techniques without even trying. Oh, and there's some poorly written romance as well, which feels very out of place.

I also want to briefly mention how uncomfortable the character design is. I don't want to get controversial here, but I cannot fathom why anyone would draw twelve-year-old girls like that. On the other hand, some characters are well designed, cleverly mixing the traditional "ninja style" with more futuristic looks.

The art is not remarkable. Some scenes do look bad, but not to the point that it makes the manga unreadable.

There's not much more to say about this manga. Some readers might enjoy the new, fresh approach involving technology and some others might not. I, for one, think that it was not a bad approach in the beggining, but to have all villains be super powerful thanks to scientific tools is something that makes the manga less enjoyable. However, it is not as bad as some try to make it look. I would advise giving it a chance and most importantly trying to come to terms with the idea that this is a new Konoha with new issues.

Whether or not you love or hate this series depends on your mindset going into this series.
If you're looking for a continuation of Naruto's story and seeing a lot of what he can and will do going forward, you won't get that with this series. A lot of Naruto fans will be disappointed with the fact Naruto is being side-lined to the role of a supporting character, but that is something that is inevitable with his story being over. Also if you're attached to the main cast of the original series, you will likely be upset by some of the plot developments that happens ... here.

If you're willing to overlook that and just seeing how Boruto's story unfolds, I'd say it's a pretty fine series. It's not groundbreaking nor does even have the same charm as the original Naruto story in my opinion, but it's a good read nonetheless.

This story has a lot of problems that the original Naruto series had, such as a lot of the characters introduced outside of the main team will be sitting on the sidelines, even at times the other members of Boruto's team are sitting on the side, but I personally like this new team 7 crew more than the original team 7 from Naruto. My mine gripe with the original Naruto being the fact that there's so many side characters but a lot don't actually hold much importance in the story, and while that STILL exists in Boruto, it feels SLIGHTLY better. Still not great, but a little better.

Another thing people may not like is, if you're not a fan of the antics of the 4th shinobi world war from Naruto, this series will have A LOT of tropey stuff, call backs, and continuations of plotlines from the 4th great war that have lasting effects in this series. I know that arc is very divisive for fans, so it will definitely be a hit or a miss depending on who reads it. There's a lot of the crazy power-scaling antics that the 4th war had going on with it happening in this series. Characters power up very fast considering the length of this manga.

If you care about reading a good battle shonen, then this is a serviceable series. It has good fights, I've never felt the fights here are not entertaining. I know there's a demographic of people who wanna see nice beat-em-up scenes, I do too, and Boruto has good fights in it.

Story-wise, I'd say Boruto is a fine story by Shonen standards. It's nothing overly complex, it's a classic shonen story I'd say. It has some good plot twists that made jaw-drop at times, but it's not top-tier writing by any means. It doesn't have insane world building to back it up, it doesn't have crazy character motivations, it's a very short series after all. The story is kind of like an extension of the 4th great war from Naruto, specificially the Kaguya portions of the arc. It borrows a lot of themes from Naruto in this story(what a surprise).

Character-wise, I think the characters and their interactions is probably the strongest part of this series, second to the action. The villains specifically are the main reasons to read this series I'd say. I mostly grinded through this series to see how they'd play out the plot of the timeskip that they showed in the first few panels of the first chapter. I was curious how things got there, and the villains I'd say are good. Specifically one villain, Momoshiki, who is an overarching antagonist who is repeatedly causing Boruto problems throughout the series. I constantly kept reading to see what kind of schemes he would cause to threaten Boruto. Momoshiki really makes this series for me, and I believe his presence is probably a major interest of a lot of readers.

Overall, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is a pretty fine and serviceable battle shonen series. If you're a shonen fan you can probably find enjoyment reading this, it's not long, it's quick to the punch and its decent fun. Not everyone will enjoy this, especially if you're a hardcore Naruto fan. I'd say it's an above average shonen story, though I'd rate it as mixed, considering it can be very polarizing depending on what mindset you have going into it.
