This manga feels somewhat similar to Hanzou no Mon (by the same authors) due to the setting and how similar their protagonists are (both in appearance and behavior).
Having read several works by these authors, this may be a common "problem" for them: they are able to depict a very rich and accurate feudal Japanese setting in their mangas, but because they are so fixated on that time period and genre, they end up "reusing characters" and many of their works feel similar (although I would say this is only a downside if you read several of their mangas in a row, and if you read
...
them separately you will fully enjoy the realism of their settings).
To compare it with Hanzou no Mon, this comic has the advantage of not having the same dense references to historical places and characters, so it's much easier to follow for Western readers (plus I would say the protagonists here are more likable).
However, it also has the downside that this time the authors decided to include Asa the Executioner in this manga (a character from other of their works, think of it as a crossover), and the chapters dedicated to that character try to be poetic but end up being quite dense and pretentious... luckily, they are only a few of them.
As a side note, it's worth mentioning that although this comic is also episodic, those "episodes" are longer and feel way more integrated into the overall plot than those of (for example) Lone Wolf & Cub (also by the same authors), not to mention than the protagonists here are way more likable and interesting to read about (a couple of deeply in love police officers instead of a dry and impassive assassin).
