Noble blood is an accident of fortune; noble actions characterize the great.

The story centers on Chevalier Charles-Henri Sanson de Longval, the eldest brother in the Sanson family of executioners and his sister Marie-Joseph Sanson, who lives a carefree life in Versailles. Most of Charles-Henri's professional activities take place in the 18th-century France, so poor Sanson had the misfortune of experiencing extremely ‘fun’ times and, of course, the events that will lead to the French Revolution and the French Revolution itself. The revolution that will cause him numerous conflicts, both in the family, moral and personal conflicts that will make him change his world view: from read more

After reading Innocent i felt really happy with the work that Shinici Sakamoto handed down to us. It was a complete and cohesive work of art that was both faithful to its source material (that beeing Mémoires de Sanson) and creative enough to build an engaging plot while creating characters that were complex and realistic to the bone.
Unfortunately that changed with Rouge

Rouge focusses on the one thing i disliked from the 1st Innocent: Marie.
Now, let me explaing why.
First of all, i find Marie character just really flat and boring. Its THE MOST predictable character in the entire manga. Whenever Charles-Henri faces a new obstacle read more

If you came thus far you are already familiar with Innocent and know how great of a historical seinen it is. With probably the best digital art in the manga industry, on a level of detail to rival Berserk and Vagabond (and even surpass them in terms of consistency), the continuation of the Bizarre Adventures of Female Dio Brando (more flamboyance, more bisexual appeal) and her sibling Snow White Johnny Depp is to go even further beyond in absurdity (not in a bad way) and breathtaking dramatic sequences with a political background done right.

Unfortunately I feel there could be more depth and contradictions to humanize read more

Just finishing. For god's sake, this manga is f*cking good. One of the best thing I've read in my life. Thanks for the great adventure, Sakamoto-sensei.
Overall: 10 :))

I think everybody should read this manga, not only because it's about huge historical events, but also because talks about human nature. A brutal way to reflect that "All the talk about Revolution is nothing but a pack of lies". Your miserable life is not going to change into a heaven just after a "Revolution". It takes hundreds of years to achieve the goal of that revolution.

My fav quote:
