Tatarigoroshi-Hen is the question arc that place a precedent towards the rest of the series. The story reveals new and prominent information to the reader and is a huge twist in Higurashi.
The story follows Keiichi and his relationship with Satoko. Through character development within a relatively short time span, we learn difficulties Satoko deal with. Keiichi takes the burden upon himself and the story slowly take dramatic turns. The reader will question events that will be explained in the answer arcs, but will leave a great impression of how grand the mystery of Higurashi truly is after finishing the
The reader can have different experiences in sounds by downloading patches that will allow voices from the original voice actors into the game. Higurashi is originally a sound novel, but has from my knowledge, released patches with voices for the game. This is not exclusive to the steam version, so you'll have to go to third-party sites. The voice acting was on point, and I highly suggest downloading the patches for a full Higurashi experience. Although no voices are fine too, as Higurashi elevate paranoia and scenarios with great & minimalist soundtracks.
There are several versions of the art style in the game, but allow the reader to change it at their disposal. Personally, I prefer the art from the PS3 game, as the original is notoriously known for being atrocious. The steam version is fine, but ultimately leaves it to personal preferences. The backgrounds on steam are left untouched, leaving the pictures taken of the village by the author himself. The PS3 version is drawn and might be more immersive to some readers.
Overall this chapter had me fully indulged to the Higurashi universe. The mystery and suspense was amazingly elevated throughout the clues and twists. The anime adaption pales in comparison to capture this chapter. The characters had a long time to grow and develop. Satoko was more relatable and watching Keiichi struggle to figure out seemingly unmoving predicaments was very entertaining to watch. I suggest any fan of the franchise to read the visual novel. This chapter is definitely, my favorite.
