+ school life setting + MC guy who has some psychological problems, is handsome, and somewhat yandere + realisitic MC girl + characters go through dark and serious problems + similar art style (fully colored manhwas, webtoons) + super enjoyable to read

Well written works that romance across all genders. And honestly, while the main romance in Ao no was predictable and boring (mostly bc of the useless female lead and your generic shounen male lead), the one on Cherry Boy was interesting and unpredictable bc of the spunky female lead and the shy, but strong headed, male lead.

While the underlying theme of gender bender is what would draw people to both these manga, what truly is similar in both is how the issue of boys becoming girls is dealt (more seriously in Ame), alongside the emotional issues that they all face, which helps us understand these characters better. And for a change, girls aren't treated as side characters, but are given decent developments of their own. All characters are realistic, believable and act exactly like teens their ages would. Both manga also feature love quadrangles, so there's also that. And ofc, you just feel so, so, SO sorry for Takuma Hojuou and  read more

If you liked the characters that make up the love triangle in one, you will probably like the other. Both manga have a flirtatious, feminine-like, playboy who's a bit twisted and doesn't take anything seriously in the beginning, and a snappy guy who doesn't like the MC in the beginning but soon afterwards becomes embarrassed and blushes easily around her. There are elements of both comedy and drama. Differences: The main girl from CBTG has a personality that's a bit more confrontational than N!, and CBTG is a lot longer so there's more sources of drama that drive the plot.
