To put it simply, my few problems with the season of the anime were either minimized or improved in the manga ending. It's a dreary world that these two trudge through, with every step taking them towards some unknown goal. There are several points in the anime where they mention reaching somewhere, but the longer it went on, the clearer it was that they knew that endpoint about as well as I did. They were moving to move. Even given that these are young girls, how does one not grapple with what that means, the sort of aimless travel that takes them to some unknown ... destination with their lives slowly ticking down?

I think this portion of the manga addressed that. The season of the anime kind of ended without ending, which wasn't bad, but it's a bit of a letdown given where we know this is going. This series has made a point of not showing the deaths of any living beings, but I wanted to see an end for these characters, if not the end. The manga provides an end and hints at something further down the line. There's sincerely a sense by the end of this that both of them went through something, and thematically, there's so much to love about these last few chapters. We get indications that this is not something they're going through alone in the cosmic sense, and a perspective on life that comes from a surprising source, giving insights to our characters that are never spoken aloud. Everything seems so huge and yet so small at the same time.

This series left me with a distinct feeling of melancholy and, strangely, hope. Hope that, even in the worst of times, there's something (or someone) you can grab onto and find meaning in, even if it seems pointless in the broader scheme of things. It's a simple story told superbly, and I hope the anime gets an OVA to finish it out so that I can give that an even higher score (the drawing of the manga being much lower quality than the anime, but still very endearing in its own way).

We, as humans, basically stop the passage of time. An instant, a wink, millions of years pass if there's nothing there to perceive it.

This ending, this story, it was everything it had to be, that it should be. The end of all ends, the moment the universe changes. It's the moment these two girls reach the end of their journey. Every time I see an ending like this, I can't help but feel it. An explosion of thought, of emotions upon the end of not just a story, but of everything. Hell, I'm still overwhelmed by the moment I flipped to the last page, ... and this story can't get more simple. “Reach the top, we'll think about what's next later”.

Two girls begin a trip towards the highest level after the potential end of the world. A quiet story, where life's all about getting to the next fuel station, getting food, water. What's the point of a story entirely composed of two, bubbly idiots bantering about whatever they can? They go on to have conversations about what is what, about how the world doesn't make much sense from the perspective of someone who's there. The things we take for granted, or what chocolate is. They'll never know if what they got was the real thing, or an imitation. Even so, they're content with the lack of purpose in life. After the war, after humanity crumbled, we get a real depiction of people that care for each other in an environment which shouldn't be able to sustain that. It's positive to an unfathomable degree. We don't usually get that sort of message.

It hits hard because of the way it's made. The designs have this adorable nature to them, the characters act like they should. “The world is over, but I mean… I need food, and food is good, god I love food”. It goes through a process of enjoying the ONLY things you have to look forward to. A bath, warm water, a beer, a nice can of fish, the company of each other, a hobby which won't be shown or understood by another soul, ever. Is having only that a reason to despair? Absolutely. People despair for having way more than that, but the fact that we see it as a heartwarming moment, just fills me with a special kind of hope. Even if every other character decides that life could continue, we don't fault them for thinking or doing otherwise.

This is a special kind of manga, it never happens twice, and it's weird that it works as well as it does. All the while, causing the most powerful rush of emotions at the very end. Maybe it's the similarity it has with my favorite manga, “Fire Punch”. I love this kind of ending, of storytelling, characters, banter, realistic situation, and even more realistic desperation when it needs to happen. Even if it's the end of everything, let's hope we have a friend we can walk with, towards the inevitable end of everything. Live, for that's all you've got.

This manga in one word, charming. Although the premise and characters arent really unique the author made it unique with its direction. Instead of explaining the past and have more world building elements and more characters it seems that the author intentionally made this just a story of our two protagonists move on towards the top aimlessly almost saying that no matter the struggle, we must move forward even if our actions are insignificant or result in nothing, we just have to continue trodding on and enjoy life and the simple things it offers. ... The art is kinda childish and seemingly unfinished but it really gives the manga character imo.

However, It is incredibly slow, and a majority of it is just straight up boring and I had to stop reading a couple times. Definitely not something to binge read. So much more cud have been achieved with this in regards to plot, story, and characters but it wasnt done and like I mentioned above seemed to be what the author was going for.

Overall its an ok read. Its pleasant yet very boring for me. I probably wud only recommend if u want to read something on the side casually, other than that dont read it if u want something interesting plot/character wise. Its just something to relax to. A few funny moments and a few really great chapters but Id recommend only based on what ur looking for.
