Replace the game of Go with a Card Game and it's almost the same. Both Characters have someone else within them helping them play a certain game, both of which found these spirits within an old relic of some type. The Stories are different but the set up is very similar.

Both have a focus on friendship, a young mc that has been through a lot in the story and also elements of supernatural as well too from someone older than they are.
reportRecommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both of these manga series are about a trading card game, but with the game's fluid rules the focus of each match isn't strategy as much as creativity. But ultimately, the focus isn't the game itself, but enjoying it and discovering oneself through it -- Yu-gi-oh! in a standard shounen way; King of Cards in a standard shoujo way.

Both are about a weak person in High School, who happen to have split Personalities, that take up the role of "Punishing" those who bully the alter ego. Though Othello is also a romance, and a bit more serious.

Pokémon DP Adventure and Yu-Gi-Oh are two action-adventure manga about a friendly and faithful young male protagonist who battles others with fantasy-themed creatures. The kind of humor and sense of battle/combat progression are very similar, especially when the fun cast of characters turn things around with surprise strategies. A very firm and heartfelt belief in the power of friendship and believing in one's companions are also major themes the two series have in common.

Dr. Stone and Yu-Gi-Oh are two fairly popular Shonen Jump series with an intriguing story and a surprisingly lovable cast of characters that hopefully don't scare you away from the relatively large volume count. Character designs often feature crazy hair and facial features, which surprisingly work with its own charm and the rest of the amazing art within the series. There is also a rivalry between the main character and an antihero/antagonist who fight not necessarily with violence, but with their intelligence—which makes for an interesting change of pace for those fatigued with battle shounen (even though both still have violence lol).

Super Smartphone and Yu-Gi-Oh are two Weekly Shounen Jump series where the main character is a high school student who has a female childhood friend who worries about and hopes the best for him. The story starts with MC getting a mysterious item with near/amazing supernatural qualities that can help him and the rest of his friends in dangerous situations. However, no one else other than those who own items like his really know about them and a main antagonist seems to have a similar item that he'll use for his own nefarious agendas. Read either if you want some pretty smart characters.

Both are very influential shonen anime that help create big franchises to this day.

Yu-Gi-Oh and Detective Conan are two iconic shounen manga where the main character is a boy with some kind of alter ego who demonstrates his smarts and problem-solving as he punishes the criminals who comes in his way (for YGO this is mainly in first 7 vols). The girl he likes is trying to find out who this alter ego is and the series has some elements of mystery, though these apply more to Conan than to YGO. Both series are really funny and engaging to read, but also really long (Conan is STILL serializing as of 2021!) so keep that in mind.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Bleach feature a protagonist who gains a supernatural power and a spiritual partner who saves the day before involving a major series of conflicts that would put them on an edge from one antagonist to the next as they grow stronger. I can't help but compare the cast of the following: Yugi-Ichigo Rukia-Anzu Renji-Jonouchi Orihime-Shizuka Ishida-Bakura Sado-Honda Grimmjow-Kaiba

Like Im, Yu-Gi-Oh! focuses on a character from Ancient Egypt (known throughout the series as Yami Yugi or Pharaoh) who comes back to life and must prevent his past enemies from destroying the world. Both protagonists are high-ranking Ancient Egyptians (Im being a High Priest and Yami Yugi being a Pharaoh) and they live in modern day society after being brought back to life. Magicians and magic are also common themes in both mangas, dark magic especially linking to the protagonists. Both main characters are also misunderstood, being feared and viewed as evil by many when really they are both thoughtful heroes. In both mangas  read more

I'm pretty sure Yugioh is inspired by Jojo, specially by Stardust Crusaders: - Egypt culture. - Incorporeal creatures that follows the orders of its users. - The most obvious comparision are the bizarre and amazing character desing and strambotic poses. - Both are very violent for a shonen. - In both, fights are based in inteligence and sometimes the fights are a game of bets (not only duel monsters). - Both have sequels and prequels with diferents characters, space and time. - Both happen in "the real world", with supernatural elements that normal people doesn't know about. - Both series has one part of human body as symbol: Jojo the hand; and yugioh  read more

Both series contain anti-heroes who utilize their intelligence in deceiving their enemies while maintaining a sadistic demeanor and a slight touch of horror. (I'm specifically referring to the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh! which had a darker tone about puzzle games.)

They both Fight with monsters one Uses Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards the other uses Pokemon. Ash Ketchum is a great Pokemon Trainer Who is Funny And along side Pikachu Is unstoppable. and Yugi Mouto Is More of the serious protagonist Who hardly ever looses and makes great friends.

These series both have a strong, and passionate focus on gaming and its many different aspects, both Togashi and Takahashi clearly have a deep love for it. This is shown in so many different plots throughout both, from Dice Games, Card Games, Roleplaying Games and more in Yu-Gi-Oh, to the complex Greed Island RPG, the national game of East Gortheu Gungi, and the many mind games that fill the pages of Hunter X Hunter. Both manga are great, although Hunter X Hunter much better in the end, they both are great shounen reads.
reportRecommended by Rocko52
Both manga are about teenagers who encounter crazy enemies and fight them by summoning monsters. Also both series are somewhat episodic/monster of the week (only the beginning in YGO is episodic though). Both manga have silly character designs and crazy haircuts.

reportRecommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both stories have some pretty twisted poetic mindgames to the “victims” as they are facing karma so to speak as well as having an outcast in the leading role taking on dual identities though in this case the dark side identity is all the character has left of themselves due to certain cirmcstances. The shadow realm in this case would be hell itself lol
