Ballroom e Youkoso

-Really enthousiastic, fired up main characters.

-The art has a lot of 'motion in it; 
  You often need to zoom out to enjoy the match at the fullest.

-Both have great art.

-Both are about exciting matches.

Diffrence; Haikyuu!'s about volleyball and Ballroom e Youkoso about dance.

Hajime no Ippo addpermalink

Ballroom e Yookoso and Hajime no Ippo start off with a similar premise. They are both the bullied kid, and get saved by a professional sportsman (in Ippo, boxing, in Ballroom, it's a ballroom dancer). They both watch videos of said professional and want to be a pro themselves. The professional then assigns them an impossible task for beginners, and waits for them to fail... Only to be pleasantly surprised when show guts and determination and succeed.

While I've seen most of the Ippo anime, I have only started reading Ballroom E Yookoso so I can't guarantee they will be similar in the end. But the characters are both really similar and they've got some fantastic, dynamic art. read more

Blue Period addpermalink

When it comes to the plotline, Blue Period strikes me as more thought provoking but I think both are similar in a certain way.

In both of the mangas, The main character questions himself about what he wants to do in his life and suddenly by a chance encounter, finds himself getting interested in a certain something.

Both of them start to think maybe this is what they were looking for and maybe that was their destination all along. Tatara finds himself training and improving in 'Competitive Dancing' & Yaguchi starts painting all day long as if it was his long lost dream. In both of their journey of finding their 'true self', they ended up learning so many new things and gained new experience.

Looking at the manga(s) wuth this perspective, I'm sure some people will agree with me as to why these two are similar. So if you like Ballroom E Youkoso, be sure to check out Blue Period as well. read more

Both series' premise involves dancing as a main plot device as part of their story. The main male protagonist develops a talent for dancing and hopes to improve his skill. They develop relationships with other characters including dance partners who plays important roles for characterization. Both series has a lighthearted nature with a fine degree of realism. There is also some noticeable romance that becomes evident in Ballroom e Youkoso.

In both stories the main character is talented and charismatic. The art style of the Manga is brilliant. The struggles are quite similar. The value of partnership in both acting and dancing is brilliant.

Boku no Hero Academia addpermalink

This is a character based recommendation. The main characters: Tatara of BeY and Deku of BNHA are nearly exactly the same:
- both freak out when forced to think about something when in a relaxed environment, nervous in general
- however, they are geniuses at analyzing and learning from others
- both have puffy hair
- both are freaks at what they do when they need to do their thing (deku's fighting, tatara's dancing) on a bigger stage
- unlimited potential
It's highly entertaining watching these two be main characters and be driving forces for their environments. They make the people around them that much more interesting.

Although neither series shares the same aspect of competition, both series focuses on a main male protagonist who begins to find his way in life. The premise of both series has a  fated scenario where the main character's life drastically changes as result of certain events. Throughout their story, we see the talent of the main male protagonist as they display their skills in front of the world. For Shigatsu, it involves piano playing while Ballroom e Youkoso deals with dancing.

Both series are about characters who are taking the first steps into the world of ballroom dancing. While Waltz no Ojikan is a shoujo and Ballroom e Youkoso is a shounen they both focus on the idea that someone who seems unremarkable at first can change through their dedication to dancing, something they never considered before.

Both feature a flash-forward start, very similar MC's (Both bullied, want to change so they try their respective sports). Both are very good underdog stories. Highly recommend the other if you've read one.

both manga have to do with an mc who doesn't have anything super interesting to them, and are kind of plain, but then are taken away by a beautiful girl who is perfect at her craft, wishing to become a pro. and because of said girls, the mc's are inspired and get into the craft themselves, also becoming aspiring pros. both mc's are natural and have lots of raw potential, but need to hone it, and that is what makes both manga so good!

Tales of a "Hot blooded youth", Ballroom and Mononofu are both about young men who, not having a particular dream for the future, by chance stumble upon something they can actually put their all into. Both MCs step into a world where they know nothing about, but now have a desire to know everything their is to know and strive to be the greatest.

protag gets into sport, gets crush, there's a samegender athlete who is much better than them at the same dance school/rink, continues in sport to try and change themself, quirky award-winning male coach.
