Mentaiko Itto is currently one of the biggest names in "bara" or rather "gei komi" (gay comics) in Japan. Unlike BL, which shows male gay romance by straight women for straight women, this genre is by gay men for gay men. It thus differs in many ways: the artstyle is more masculine, leaning on the Seinen side instead of the BL-shoujo-bishonen, and will tackle topics such as LGBTQ+ acceptance, social issues, patriarchal structures and toxic masculinity.

Much of this remarkable one shot manga is a rolling car crash that you can't look away from as the viewpoint character, deeply closeted Yuudai, and his secret crush Kimikazu have a drunken encounter after graduation. The episode is tragic and somewhat reflective of author Mentaiko/Itto's own experiences (and many others in unprogressive times and places) of putting up an exaggerated straight facade for fear of exposure. Well-realized characters are illustrated beautifully in the author's distinctive bara style. Explicit but not erotic due to the painful emotional rollercoaster you experience while reading, this is nevertheless one of Mentaiko's best works. Recommended.

For some reason this does not leave to him being traumatized by this, but instead realizes he’s in love with the assaulter, but is too cowardly to come out. Aren’t the steps a little messed up there my dude? Were you unable to realize your feeling until you were forced to have ...
