Two stories about young women taking the reigns of their destinies and forging their own paths. Amusingly both series characters are prophesied in one way or another to bring great upheaval to their respective countries. Both have strong brave women that were betrayed by their loved ones, both will go on a journey that will eventually have them meet up with the allies they need and both gain massive character development as the story goes one learning to be more compassionate and thoughtful. That said the heroines and the stories are polar opposites of each other. Song's heroine is a wise and cunning strategist as  read more

Both female leads are quietly intelligent and shrewd - alot of tactics and strategy involved in their thinking. Romance in both are slow to develop and subtle but both very cute.

Both have strong female leads however Basara's story is much more dramatic and elongated. Both have romances involving enemies becoming a love interest.

If you ever wanted to see a female lead who's a brilliant tactician of politics and war with enough charisma to bring people down to their knees, both series will fulfill your wish and do it incredibly well. ------- Joou no Hana and Song of the Long March/Chang Ge Xing/Chouka Kou both detail the life of an extremely gifted princess (Aki and Li Chang Ge respectively) who is forced into hiding after a political upheaval that she only managed to escape due to her enemies underestimating her by the virtue of her sex. Unfortunately for them, she wants revenge, and she has the skills to do it. The  read more

The stories take place in a historical setting, the artworks are pretty good. The main characters are strong, independent and really intelligent! (they're both strategist and their plan are like OOOOHH DAMN!) There's also a political plot and war going on even though they may differ a bit. Awesome characters can't miss it ><

Historical settings on the plains with strong female leads, tribal conflicts, political upheavals and wonderful stories with great art. Song of the Long March ( aka Choukakou) is much darker with more warfare while Otoyomegatari is not as tragic with more detailed art. Both these series feature strong female leads. In Choukakou, she is a leader and lives as a man keeping her female identity hidden and there is no romance, while in Otoyomegatari the girls are strong but it is not a gender bender and they do have relationships. Still, I think that fans of  read more

The mc's of Song of the Long March and Saver are similar in that these strong heroines hide their gender and act and dress as men. Song of the Long March has a historic setting, while Saver is a fantasy, and Change is weaker physically than the sword fighter Ley, but they both are cool headed thinkers who possess similar leadership abilities. If you like strong heroines and good stories with politics and fighting I would recommend both of these.

One may wonder as to how two tales cut from different cloths can be so similar...And yet they are. These two are both beautifully drawn, laboriously at that. If you're one who's easily taken in by detail-oriented awesome artworks, then this one's for you. The two leads, in their journey to find their destiny, discover themselves instead. These tales don't simply show the protagonists doing 'things' but they also draw you in with their struggles, frustrations and successes. Blood, sword fights and revenge. Vagabond may not be an outright revenge story and yet it is, albeit in a very different form.  read more

Although Song of the Long March has not finished, I find that it's similar to Aisopos in it's careful exploration of another culture, and takes you back in time while keeping a sweet fantasy! Filled with scenery, plot, and romance it's like watching a Chinese historical revenge drama, except with a higher quality plot, and you're reading it. I enjoyed that they were both historical in nature. If you're looking for a finished series to help get you through the wait for our unfortunate mangaka to win her legal battle, I highly recommend Aisopos! Historical, exploration of another culture, a cute romance that subtly works its  read more

If you like strong women who get the job done. Then you should check out song of the monarch.

Both are historical manga that follow very intelligent young girls.

Gender bender is taken more seriously as both mcs lives depend on it. If you want to avoid those stories where the girl is found out while taking a shower these are for you.

Ancient China. Historical. Gender Bender. Strategic Beautiful intelligent wise female main character who reflects a path of king. And a delicate romance with a handsome male character :) It's not a cheesy shallow story and the artist's work really stands out compared to others.

Both have strong, adventurous female leads. Both have beautiful art styles unique to the historical setting of each story (Arte = Renaissance Italy, Song of the Long March = Imperial China). Song of the Long March revolves around war & politics, whilst Arte is about culture & art.

If you enjoy setting in ancient China with lots of political intrique and highly intelligent strategists and military tacticians and lots of political rivalry, these both will satisfy that. Ravages of Time is longer and more complex, with a larger cast but they both have similar themes.

Strong female protagonists who excel in military tactics. Both take place in ancient China.

If you like historical stories with politics and adventure these are good ones. Yes the styles are different, but they both have characters that go through a lot of growth and development and nobles and countries plotting and scheming. Princess is more josie although it is a manhwa, and may seem like a simple story at first, but it is complex and spans generations and is now at 31 volumes, so please don't dismiss it as just a simple shoujo romance. If you want real stories, these wil supply that, if you really like  read more

Both strong women in royalty with ambitions and a great motivational drive. Upon reading one chapter into each of these you easily get a "similar" feel for both of these manga. Biggest difference between the two is Song of the Long March is more Chinese culture and Aoi Horus no Hitmoi: Dansou no Joou no Monogatari is more Egyptian culture.

A Display of amazing tacticians in both stories who are exceptional in politics and warfare, achieving deeds that makes them famous over the centuries. Both protagonists experienced a terrible up bringing which leads them to accomplishing remarkable feats in the worst conditions and immense pressure most would fail in. Both are set in a historical environment not to mention the two narratives also indulge in Drama, Action, Military, and Adventure, genre components.

Young girl gets involved with a struggle over a crown and a rule over a kingdom. With scarce allies and she has to survive long enough to solve the conflict. Both series take inspiration from ancient China, though Juuni Kouki is a fantasy.
