Both boys has to deal with inner demon and goes through a tramatic past with their mothers. In this case Nowhere boy is about the world's unhappiest boy while Tokyo Ghoul is about a life led by tradegy. I would recommend Tokyo Ghoul for now since it's finished and serialized by a publisher. But feel free to find some enjoyment in both. Oh and yeah both guys become kinda cute when having white hair ;). 

Both are pretty depressing. Nowhere Boy is about the world's unhappiest person. Winner of the game show "Welcome to Survival, 'I Am Unhappy,' he is granted one wish by god which is for the world to end. Oyasumi Punpun is a coming of age that starts off with Punpun's father being arrested for beating his mother.
