Synopsis

What with humans killing, exorcising, and otherwise getting rid of them all the time, monsters and demons have become endangered species. Someone has to look out for them, and that's what Yamada Shintarou is training to do- he's going to become a monster guardian. Armed with a two-by-four and a talking rabbit, he goes out to fight the demon hunters, hoping to defeat enough of them to get his monster guardian license. It is while he is doing this that he meets Nao, a normal (if unusually pretty) high school girl, and instantly falls in love... with her neck. Now Yamada has a new mission in life: to protect Nao, and keep anyone- monster, ghost, demon hunter, or otherwise- from getting in the way of his view of her nape.

Preliminary (Unknown/12 eps)
Kanpai! is a fun story, about a vampire and his love interest, a part of a girl's neck! XD

What I really like about this series, is its crazy humor, which is this author's famous trademark.
Comical explosions galore, funny wtf momments, and generally American cartoon violence, in general.

Another thing that I like is that for once the bad guys are the exorcists! Usually the demons are the bad guys, not the heroes.

If you want a great supernatural comedy WITH plot. Check out Kanpai!

Mixed Feelings
"A Toast to the Nape of Your Neck" was originally a one-shot published in 1997 in the back of Maki Murakami's Gravitation vol. 4 tankoban. It became it's own serialized manga in 2001...and never finished.

S T O R Y - The original short was actually a really cute story, and it worked well as a one-shot. Sure, it had potential to be a longer series, but I was always pretty happy with it being what it was -- many things with that sort of quiet potential have been subsequently ruined, after all. Kanpai! expands on the premise of the one-shot and changes a number of ...
