There are three things I want to mention about "Hinamatsuri":

1. This is a full-fledged comedy manga.
2. Despite the unusual setting, this is a slice-of-life manga without 'depressing drama moments'.
3. This is a very awesome and very unique manga.

Ok, let me explain:
1. There are a lot of comedy mangas out there, often with some girls talking about random stuff, but most of them aren't really that funny. And that's actually fine! Even though they might not be that funny, still they bring a smile to my face and are worth reading.
Well, "Hinamatsuri" is different. This manga is REALLY funny. There were some scenes were I actually ... had to laugh for a while before I could continue reading. Hina is just such a dumb and weird girl, it's really hilarious, and also some of the situations with the side characters are just pretty funny.

What I really like about the manga is how it isn't really exaggerated: Many comedy mangas try to present some 'crazy' and 'over the top' stuff to make people laugh, but not here: Most of the time, the stuff which happens here isn't that unrealistic, it could actually happen in real life (to some extent), and that's also what makes it so good. It's kind of 'real-life-situations', which would be really funny is those actually happened. The art, which doesn't uses SD scenes, but rather 'realisticly warped faces', does a very good job in supporting this. The manga doesn't feel like a completely detached 'fantasy world', but rather something you could relate to, to some extent.

2. "Hinamatsuri" has a very weird and unusual setting: The male protagonist is a respected yakuza member, and one day, a girl with strong psychic powers appears in his appartment and their life together begins. This really sounds like that there will be some real plot to where the girl actually came from, how she got her powers etc. Usually, you'd think the manga would go like this: Parts with lots of comedy, and in between parts with serious scenes (or in bad cases, 'forced drama', see Haganai anime) with no comedic content. There are some comedy mangas which executed this formula well, and a lot which did this miserably.

Well, Hinamatsuri is different. There has been no chapter so far which was 'depressing' or had no comedy in it. You know, a manga dealing with serious topics isn't bad, but most of the time, I just want something relaxing with no content which would get me "emotionally worked up". Slice of Life is the perfect genre for this: Just relaxing content, no drama stuff.
Every chapter of "Hinamatsuri" stays true to it's comedic nature. There's no chapter where suddenly everything gets tense and serious, no. It's always got it's bright mood.
But don't get this wrong: The plot definitely progresses. Situations changes for many of the side characters. Also, we do actually get to know more about Hina and where she came from. But it's all presented in a funny manner and really slowly, so that the manga always maintains it's "Slice of Life" character.
Also, some scenes can be somewhat emotional, for example, when a side character has to start living as a homeless person. As I mentioned, the manga doesn't make a "Hoho, she's homeless, how funny!"-thing out of it (like some other exaggerated comedies might do), but rather presents this rather dire situation in an appropriate way. But even so, the mood never gets dark. The character stays strong, and so does the comedy.
Here, I also want to praise the characters: They are really really awesome. Not only Hina and her yakuza caretaker, but also many of the side characters, which get into pretty funny situations in their life.

3. The setting is very unique. The comedy is very good. The way how the story unfolds is pretty awesome. The manga never fails to keep up it's bright mood and soon, you will come to love most of this manga's characters.
Really, give it a shot ;-)

So that's it my friends ... Hinamatsuri came to an end ... I am very happy to have accompanied this wonder ... Thank you Ohtake for the wonderful story and for the wonderful and captivating characters ... Anzu, my favorite character from Hinamatsuri, melted my heart since she appeared ... Her growth as a person was sensational ... she was the main reason why I read the manga ... she is so captivating and leaves us so moved that we think she carries Hinamatsuri on her back, even that the other characters are also captivating. There's not much to talk about, it's just pure ... madness and comedy ... But it also makes us cry ... The throws with Yakuza and the fights are wonderful ... It will never get out of my top 10 ❤ ... that's all great ... I recommend it to anyone who is starting to read

Surprised this manga has this little popularity, its one of the funniest comedy manga I have ever read and i think it deserves more recognition and support as SOL comedies usually don't make me laugh or interest me that much.

Story- Slice of life, comedy manga about an eccentric young girl, Hina, who has Esper powers that's currently living together with an infamous Yakuza member, Nitta, and the troubles she always causes him by using her powers whenever she feels like it. Most chapters usually revolve around their home, school, the bar and the dealings of Yakuza activities. The story does not have much progression. However, ... new characters are introduced and developed along with the main characters and they are absolutely hilarious especially Hitomi and her classmates.

Art- Great art, very detailed and oriented nicely. The art is more of a "proper human-like" style compared to other manga as this bears more resemblance to reality showing a plethora of pretty,ugly and funny faces.

Characters- The characters are very unique and have their own personal quirkiness. Not only has the author put in a lot of work into the main characters, the side characters as well have their own story to tell which differs from typical manga.

Overall: This series is honestly one of the most unique and enjoyable comedy series I have ever read. Other comedy SOL manga usually gets stale and dies off after awhile as the jokes are repeated way too often and the characters lack life with its typical generic cliche personality. I highly recommend this manga to anyone who wishes to be entertained

First time writing a review, so I just keep this short and simple. Feedback is welcome, will try to improve myself so that I can write better reviews in the future.

Apparently, "with great power comes great responsibility".

Hina in Hinamatsuri is a powerful esper who essentially forces Nitta the yakuza to take her in. The two together find themselves among a memorable cast and ridiculous circumstances that make you wonder "how are they gonna worm out of it this time?"

Hinamatsuri was a joy ride from start to finish and I've, like countless others, found myself laughing out in public much to my dismay. Setting crippling social standings aside, Hinamatsuri is an excellent example of comedy manga done right. The reason why it this series is so successful is due to comedy's essential mantra: "write characters and ... the jokes will come naturally".

Every character from Nitta & Hina to the rest of the spectacular cast (my favourite is Hitomi) has their moment to shine. Every chapter finds the cast in an absurd scenario and therefore requiring equally or more absurd solutions which lead to more hilarious scenarios. It's the chemistry between the writing of the characters and how they interact with each situation that makes Hinamatsuri so charming.

Nonetheless, due to Hinamatsuri's thrill ride nature, there was little time to stop for scenery. Many of the more emotional and serious tones are outright shafted for a cheap gag, ruining the mood. The early section regarding Anzu's character development, in my opinion, was a great way to establish not only character development but creating a "heart" in the series. There is very little of heart in the series as it is traded in favor of jokes and a quick laugh. Furthermore, the ending climax felt slightly underwhelming in the grand scheme of things with a few things feeling like it was rushed in a last minute frenzy.

Ultimately, with a greater power comes a greater responsibility--and it's frankly the characters' lack of responsibility that makes for the most entertaining circumstances. Despite its lacking in some more heart in its heartfelt moments, no one can argue the charm and the familial sense of home that the series has going for it. It is an excellent series that despite the somewhat lack-lustre climax, felt phenomenal in respect to the journey since chapter 1. Hinamatsuri is a first-class manga in its own right and you'll find yourself right at home if you give it a chance.

I am surprised this manga isn't that popular, despite being a hilarious comedy that shares similarities with Yotsuba to! or D-Frag!, implementing the manzai-type of comedy, in addition to a lot of situational and everyday life of humor. It is has a fantasy type of setting, as well as great characters and art style that enhances the comedy greatly. It must be said that it shares some dubious and ridiculous aspects as well that broke a bit with the immersion in the manga.

~Story~

The setting of Hinamatsuri is quite unconventional, especially considering the characters presented. Readers are presented with Nitta, a Yakuza member, who finds Hina ... in a box one day, a young girl with supernatural powers. Reluctantly taking her in to avoid further problems, the daily lives of both are presented. The fact that she goes berserk whenever not using her powers doesn't alleviate the situation at all.

What makes this manga so hilarious are the situations presented: these are for the most part everyday life of events, often easily relatable to the readers. These include aspects such as housecleaning, going to the shop, visiting relatives and the likes. Another addition is the representation of the doings of the Yakuza and adults: these range from retrieving money from loaners, going to the bar, or visiting the cabaret - which are fantastically relayed, due to misunderstandings or the characters themselves. It not all comedy in the manga: there are is also some drama on the stories of the different characters, such as becoming homeless or realizing how their own personalities are. These are well conveyed, in addition to mixing some humour in it, which was surprisingly well done.

Another thing that should be considered is the fantasy element to the manga: as story progresses, reader are presented with the supernatural powers, in addition to the introduction of different characters from the world from where Hina comes from. Although such characters are interesting, these remain a bit unexplored after its introduction, returning to these whenever the author felt like. This caused little inconsistencies throughout the story, lacking cohesion between these events; nevertheless, these issues were a minor drawback. The fact that the powers remained unexplored in addition to the world from where the main protagonist came from was lacking. Some events became rather ridiculous as well, such a teenager being able to do everything possible.

~Characters~

The characters of Hinamatsuri were one of the most important aspects to the manga, as without these, it wouldn't be even half as good as it is. The cast is not huge, yet sufficiently large to enhance the experience, as well as slowly introducing different ones, all with a variety of personalities than can't really be tied to stereotypes. The most interesting character was Nitta, whose personality an actions were certainly amusing as well as alluring, in particular seeing the hardships related to taking care of Hina. She herself could be described as a dumb and ignorant child, in addition to being egoistic.Although it certainly added to the humour of the manga, I personally disliked her a lot due to her personality. Character development and fleshing out of these are rather lackluster, albeit having some of these presented; however, this did not work against the manga.

Moving on to the supporting cast, these were for the most part amusing and interesting, presenting in some cases character development as well as fleshing out of these. This effects in particular the case of Hitomi, Hina's classmate, who evolves to be quite an incredible character, yet rather unbelievable due to her cunning. Other character of interest is Anzu, who becomes homeless and needs to deal with her situation, the author managing to portray the hardships of being homeless, both through the character and the supporting ones. For the majority of the interactions presented, these are well done, albeit exaggerated in some cases, yet immensely entertaining. The different personalities of these certainly enhanced the humor in the manga as well.

~Art~

The art style of Hinamatsuri is befiiting of the story, yet average as a whole, matching backgrounds as well as character designs; although these were generic and simple in most cases. There were also some inconsistencies found such as distortioned faces, yet was a small drawback. However, what stood out are the facial expression of the characters: these easily transmitted the characters emotional state, such as anger, confusion, surprise, you name it. These were hilarious and masterfully conveyed through correct shading techniques, without distorting the characters faces in any way.

~Enjoyment~

Hinamatsuri was overall a hilarious manga which I thoroughly enjoyed in the comedy aspect; the more fantastic side of the manga was rather lackluster, yet never really a huge issue, as it managed to maintain me entertained throughout its duration. There were some drawbacks story wise, especially when it got a bit to ridiculous for my liking, as it didn't really fit with it; the comedic slice of life were certainly the most entertaining ones. To people who enjoy reading a comedy based manga it is highly recommended, yet for those who is in search of a good story and deep characters may want to skip this one.

Let's be honest, the art is barely better than the original Onepunch-man, and this is why it works so well. This is a gag slice-of-life story, that happens to have superpowers as a flavor and a lot of yakuza, including the main character.

The story makes absurd plots flawlessly work, making the stupid and supernatural fit really organically into day-to-day life.

Despite all the great storylines of the main characters and my fuzzy love for Niita-the-troubled-idiot, Hitomi-chan' storyline takes the cake. I just don't know how you can come up with that on purpose, because it is OUTSTANDING. Her story alone is the reason to pick the ... manga up, it is similar to the main humor element in jokes of Nozaki-kun, Gintama, and other parody animes. Yet still, so unique. Basically, overpowered character (think Light, Leloush) with a twist, that makes it a damn comedy instead of, well, Death Note and the likes. This is one of the moments when I wish my memory to be erased, so I would have a pleasure to meet with Hitomi-chan' plot all over again.

One of the most memorable manga that I've read.

I've first seen it in Netflix the anime version but I felt unsatisfied so I go straight to the manga when I discovered it has.

The story is great, comedy is top tier which is more on misunderstandings. The art is not that great but clear and detailed so it can deliver the story better.

Characters are great as their designs. You got a unusual yakuza mc, who was forced to adopt a girl who has a superpower, and many more interesting characters.

It was sad it has ended but it's sure a hell of a manga,
I recommend you ... to read it.

Hinamatsuri is easily my most favorite manga and I don't get why it's relatively unknown in the community. It's slice of life with pretty good humor about a Yakuza basically adopting a girl with psychokinetic powers from the future/another dimension (?) - we haven't really reached a full explanation yet. The setting and the characters are each funny in their own way. I'm usually particularly drawn to Hina's own storyline, as well as Nitta's and Mishima's. Anzu's isn't that great, but still passable in its own way.

The setting doesn't reset at the end of a chapter, and there's multiple chapters with references to events 30 ... chapters back and many questions still unanswered at this point in time.

The art isn't quite on the same level as other famous slice of life manga, like Yotsubato!, but simply comparing it to Azuma's stuff is already a pretty high bar. Also there's been a noticeable change in storytelling and art style from the earlier chapters to the later ones, and it's basically all only ever getting better.

If adoption stories like Usagi Drop or general slice of life with a little bit of action, quite a bit of humor and the possibility, but not the overt use, of magical abilities are to your liking, Hinamatsuri won't disappoint you. Give it a try.

The side stories redeemed this manga, the growth of Anzu was great and Hitomi's gradual build up was bloody hilarious. The final arc was stupid in the best of ways and I loved it.

Those are the manga's only redeeming factors to be honest. There is no growth for anyone else (except Mao becoming not insane). Hina has her moments but is essentially the same, even in the 2-part final. This is a death knell for a comedy series, it gets repetitive and hearing the same joke twice is never funny. Nitta never ... grows either but he really a vehicle for jokes or the foil to Hina so it's not a problem

Art: 5/10
Not bad but not good. All characters have those weird doughy faces that you see in mediocre manga. The backgrounds are pretty good but many panels have plain grey or white background.

I hate pretty much all the characters here.

The real problem is that Hina never grows as a person. She is constantly the unlikable, spoiled brat who gets everything done for her. Even in the final, she puts no effort in, even with the random motivation the author pulls out of a hat for her from one random panel in a previous chapter.

Anzu is a lovable cinnamon roll who actually grows as a person and is likable. Hitomi is… normal, which is exactly what makes the story around her hilarious. Mao is kind of just there, we don't get much out of her beside the jokes about the dolls (it makes sense in context), she feels very shoehorned in because the author felt he needed another character.

I actually like Nitta, his vase obsession is a good gag and he's relatively normal despite his gang affiliation. His normalcy combined with his job is what drives the comedy in many cases, relying on Hina to do gangster-like things

A lot of the side characters are very bland and get some chapters together, nothing interesting and they take away from the few good characters.

I wasn't sure if I was actually going to finish this or drop it but I stuck it out in the end. I'm surprised to be giving this manga such a bad score when there's so much hype for it but it just doesn't click with me to be honest. Maybe I just don’t like the comedy but it felt like a drag at times, even near the end I was skimming chapters. I dislike most characters, I just can’t stand the main character most of the time. This would be a 3 or a 2 if not for the few redeeming factors it has: the loony ending, Anzu (in general) and Hitomi's story arc. I mention them a lot throughout this review and that's because they're the only bits I liked. Some other parts were funny sure, but I've seen much better.

Of course this is all subjective, there seems to be raving reviews otherwise, so maybe this manga just isn’t a fit for me. Read the other reviews and come to your own conclusion, comedy in any media is even more subjective than any other genre and you may love this.

I don't usually write reviews but this... this manga is way beyond my expectations! Yeah, we got that this is like Saiki or Mob Psycho but this manga had a league on it's own. We don't see very often a metal pod coming out from nowhere. We also don't see a girl, that had been kidnapped, mistakes the scene as a T.V shooting. We will never see a pot-addicted yakuza (I don't mean drugs, really) buy a 7-million yen worth of chinawares. This manga is very much unique and the features it's showing keeps on coming. Seriously, this puts the nail in the coffin that ... this manga deserves more from this community.

Let me guess... you wanted an ultra-op character that doesn't do anything but sleeping, eating, and playing video games but in the most weird way possible? You're in the right track.

Character: 10/10

Simple as this. A middle-school bartender, a homeless psychic, a crazy yakuza organization, a class that comprises 30% popular idiots, 20% quiet idiots, and 50% normal idiots, and many more! I like the fact that these characters (side or main) are so relevant as the story goes on. Makes you glued to your goddamn toilet seat.

Enjoyment and Overall:

Dude, this is the sh**! You can't really expect the unexpected because in here, expectations are beyond imagination! The manga has high quality jokes and scenarios that can parallel to Gintama sometimes (that's a high praise coming from me, HAHAHA). Seriously, if you wanted a running-gag that is a literal running-gag, this is it! 10/10!!!!!!

Hinamatsuri is a solid comedy manga that starts out super strong, but ends a little bit awkwardly. I greatly enjoyed the majority of the series, mostly because of the hilarious scenes and great characters (Anzu, Hitomi, and Nitta for example). But, the final arc honestly ruined the manga a little bit for me, as it focused on some of my least favorite characters in the series, and the answer to the question "Who is Hina and where did she come from?" is never concluded very solidly. The ending also felt very rushed, and sometimes it also felt like the author was just making things up ... last minute. There are a lot of 10/10 moments spread throughout the series however, and I think that this manga is definitely worth a read.
Note: Although there are only around 100 chapters, the chapters are pretty long, so the manga does feel like it is somewhat lengthy. That being said, I binged the entire thing in 2 days.

This series might've been close to a 10/10, if only the ending were better. However, it's still really good and worth a read.

Hinamatsuri is a manga that excels at comedic delivery. Mangaka Otake Masao is brilliant at drawing facial expressions and paneling. The characters’ consistent reactions, the timing of the jokes, and their unexpected twists induce side clutching laughter.

Character dialogue and reaction faces are the bread and butter of Hinamatsuri. Chapters where storyline does not advance, are also when some of the funniest interactions between characters occur, because anything can happen and the colorful characters can be themselves.

The story is weak but adequate for a sci-fi-esque comedy. The setting, the ensemble cast of yakuza and co, are also somewhat unconvincing, but you tell yourself it’s okay ... because it’s all for fun. Nitta’s running gag of becoming increasingly badass through external events outside his control is a classic trope of stumbling to success without intending to. As is Hitomi’s path to a careerwoman.

However, because the comedy of Hinamatsuri relies on degenerating characters and embracing the ‘dame’ lifestyles many characters take on, the manga and cast do become parodies of themselves near the end. Otake’s lack of greater story is the double-edged sword that allows for the most unexpected funny chapters,but also responsible for the meandering plot and wishy-washy development and use of characters. Nitta’s yakuza friends who are introduced with a certain level of respect for their ferocity quickly become defanged and sidelined unless called upon as plot or gag devices. Mao’s kung fu cult and throwaway musician characters somehow becomes intertwined with central conflict, whereas other characters that seemed important early on, like the bar owner, Nitta’s family, and the other future characters become the real minor characters.

Of course, realism is obviously not a priority in a manga involving time traveling psychics and middle schoolers becoming trillionaires, but the accumulation of unrealism for the sake of running gags across 19 volumes does become palpable near the end. Whereas early volumes riffed off characters unexpectedly doing funny things when cornered, later on, nothing was impossible for the crew of psychics, syndicate members, and business magnates. The puzzle aspect is lost and we merely spectate the team performing the expected. The funny moments are still attempted, but in the last few volumes, the plot develops at a pace unnatural to the one we’ve become accustomed to. The quicker pace made the world of hinamatsuri feel as it were breaking down. While due diligence in resolving plot and characters was done, it lost what made Hinamatsuri so great to begin with- the comedic delivery between character dialogue and their reactions.

In the end, Hinamatsuri, like it’s characters, grows up, and loses some of its youthful charm. The characters mature, become more predictable, and goal-oriented. Nevertheless, Otake managed to create a large colorful cast of memorable characters, an impressive feat. Although one might not remember the plot to Hinamatsuri years from now, one will certainly remember the laughs and good times.

Art - The art is very straight forward just like the Main Character Hina. It doesn't have extraordinary hairstyle or character design but the art style fits perfectly with the genre. This kind of art style has its own charm and it makes this manga even more hilarious.

Character - Yakuza. Esper. Bartended. Office worker and few other normal people. But don't underestimate these lineup.

Story - Refreshing storyline if you want a slice-of-life comedic anime. If the anime interests you, you'll find the manga more interesting.

Most readers get bored after a few chapter if the comedic formula is repetitive. But Hinamatsuri does not make readers ... feel that way. Every chapter has its own to way to make people laugh. Readers will not get easily bored.

after completing this wonderful manga, I can not hold myself from talking about it.

this manga focuses on comedy more than anything else. I fell into a hysterical laughter every time I read it. However, the plot is good and suitable for this kind of series.

I really loved the characters of this manga, and I liked how different they are. every interaction between them was nice and funny which made this manga extremely enjoyable.

the art in this manga is good in general, I did not find anything distinctive in it. the author did not focus on background detail, which is pretty normal for comedy ... manga.

In conclusion, I truly recommend anyone to read this manga, especially if they look for something to plough it.

As there are a lot of other reviews, i will skip most of the stuff covered by other reviewers.

This manga is a ridiculous mix of yakuza + espers from future + normal highschoolers + few adults from various walks of life. The comedy is always on point. Having such a wide variety of characters also allows the manga to focus on different characters (and their interactions) in various chapters. Although Hina/Nitta are the main MC pair, we have a secondary cast of characters who are atleast as popular. Hitomi's rise or Anzu's heartwarming adventures are always wholesome.

Despite going past 100 chapters, you never ... feel like a chapter is boring. Although there is a plot, it is almost always in the background while the comedy drives the series slowly progressing the plot towards its climax.

Fortunately, this manga establishes the mood right from chapter 1. So, if you can read a few chapters, you know exactly what you are getting into. I really wished for Nitta to be married by the end of the series, but it is not that much of a dealbreaker.

It was so good, but it got worse as the mangaka keep Hina the same as she is. It's king of annoying to watch her being calm and don't care about anything, like she is becoming a villian and a NEET now. At least there must be some character development, but no. I was so dissapointed when reading the later chapters from 64 and beyond. At the beggining the show was so good. But now, I just hope Hina will become better and the whole show will have some development rather than the usual misunderstanding gags.

I really hate the rule of entering a longer ... review, why do we need that? Nobody have time to read a review that long, they would just rather trying the manga or the anime first. Time is gold, and for a reviewer like me, I dont have time to make up a long review as well. I just write this part because my review is not long enough.

idk im kinda surprised there aren't more reviews for this series, especially now that the manga has officially finished. honestly this manga has its ups and downs, the parts before the time skip feel a lot more solid. some reviewer was like "ummm hina doesnt really develop even after the time skip" and honestly they're not wrong cause every character except hina gets develop (for better or for worse) and hina's just hanging around like nobody's business.

it's funny. it's wholesome. it's not too wholesome though because the manga -- or at least its characters -- keep themselves in check from trying to fall into ... the "too sappy" area. except anzu but anzu is best girl so nobody cares when she gets sappy and everyone cries. yep. not all the jokes land and some will depend on your humor (i personally didnt find the rockband that interesting to follow at all) so not every chapter will be a banger. you might find your experience reading this manga to be inconsistent because of that fact; you may not find enjoyment every chapter.

is it true that hitomi was supposed to get with nitta??? cause that's creepy bro. im glad that it didnt turn out to be endgame. even as a joke, i dont think i can get past the age difference. im hoping im just misinformed because i dont want to think about it otherwise

Hinamatsuri is a fun, lighthearted, comedy manga. The premise itself is simple: a yakuza boss is living his life, when all of a sudden Nina, a young girl appears in his home. Turns out she is an insanely strong esper, and the two of them get into various hijinks as the story goes on.

What makes this manga special, however, is that though Nina has some crazy powers, they don’t define her character at all. Nina is a lazy, good for nothing, middle school girl who just wants to nap and play video games. Her powers aren’t really that important, as this manga is almost ... purely character focused.

Most of the comedy in this manga comes from the well written characters bouncing their personalities off of one another, creating hilarious misunderstandings and situations. Though the power is ever present throughout, it only acts as a supplement to the characters, not as a replacement for personality. This cements the manga as a slice of life, as most of the time powers have no impact on the world around them.

There is a good amount of plot here, but it never tries to get serious and overdramatic. The characters sometimes forget that there is a story at all, and sometimes purposely try to distance themselves from it, adding to the overall hilarity and light tone.

Though the art isn’t the greatest, it has a lot of character, and contributes to the overall feel of the manga perfectly.

If you need a breathe of fresh air, give this manga a read, it’ll be sure to leave a grin on your face.

The premise seems very interesting, but the pacing of the story feels extremely "off" to me. I had trouble understanding what was happening in the first chapter, until I watched the Anime version which made the scenes make sense. Things in the manga seem to happen in a very rushed fashion, which also leads to confusion about things. Also, Nitta's reluctance to find out more about Hina seems very strange to me; When a girl in a weird space capsule suddenly appears in your apartment one night, most people wouldn't just accept it blindly, but somehow Nitta seems to.

The characters aren't terribly likeable other ... than for Nitta, and seem generally shallow. Nitta is a Yakuza member with his heart in the right place, but Hina on the other hand just seems spoiled, careless and ignorant - very brattish and not a character to root for, in my case. Later on another similar character is introduced, who is even more unlikeable.

The art is allright at times, poor at other times; Especially Hina seems to be drawn quite badly in almost every panel where you can see her face clearly. I didn't fully read this so the art might improve later on, but at least in the earlier chapters it's not very good.


The premise made me feel like giving the anime adaptation a go, which seems better in all aspects (other than characters; it doesn't make characters like Hina or Anzu any more likeable) so I'd recommend that over this.

Hinamatsuri is about a girl with psychic powers (Hina) who randomly appears in the apartment of a mid-level yakuza boss. The yakuza reluctantly takes her in as his own daughter. Wacky hijinks ensue in this episodic comedy about the growing relationship between these two characters.

There is a time-skip about half-way through that ruined this series for me.

This series is way more endearing and funny when Hina and the other characters are kids. When they become teenagers however, it's a lot less wholesome. It's a shame.

I would highly recommend the first 47 chapters Hinamatsuri. That first half is a solid 8/10. It then drops in ... major quality.
