Synopsis

Maya's Funeral Procession dates back to 1972; Ichijo's style is very different here, a combination of the quickly evolving shoujo style still very influenced by Osamu Tezuka's designs and of the blockier Gothic horror style reminiscent of woodcuts. The blacks are very solid, the whites are very bright; there is some stippling and cross-shading, but it all looks hand-drawn rather than screen-toned, and the panel layouts are just gorgeous.

On the way to her family's new country house, innocent young Reina notices a tall, dark, striking woman standing in the shadows. Soon, neglected by her parents, Reina falls under the spell of the mysterious Maya ... but family secrets may destroy any chance Reina has for happiness. This is one of the earliest examples of shoujo-ai (girls' love or lesbian romance) in manga and it is the kind of over-the-top Gothic melodrama that could easily be slipped into a collection by Edgar Allan Poe.

First of all, I have to tell that I'm not a fan of yuri or shoujo ai. This is the first manga of this genre that I have ever read, and I don't regret doing it.
The main disadvantage of this manga, unfortunately, was the art. Although, it seems normal since it was published in 1972.

To be short: What I liked the most at this manga were the feelings (Sadness, anger, love, fear). The most interesting character is Maya, whose personality I liked and whose way of thinking I admired.
The psychological part of the manga is well done. The characters are thinking about life itself, ...

I always pay attention to how the story makes me wonder what is going to happen. If the plot twists are not predictable, then it is a good story.

Even if it was a short manga (It was something around 140 pages if I am not mistaken), it had a backstory and few turning points. It had me more into the story since it included witchcraft and Shoujo Ai. And the art was as good as any other 70s manga.
Since the story is not perfect, the Characters' personalities are kinda left in shadow.
If I have to describe the characters; we have an innocent ...

It's a interesting shoujo ai manga about a rich girl named Reina who stays in a random summer villa and doesn't appear to have caring parents because they're marrying her off to a childhood friend she doesn't love. She meets Maya, a mysterious beautiful woman who wears a black long sleeved garment, and the two become closer as they learn more about one other. And, my God, there's so much more to the narrative than them falling in love, like there's quite a few plot twists in this shoujo ai people that you wouldn't expect to happen at all!

If you really like your mysterious, ...
