The story of HxH is very good, the world is pretty awesome and the powers are super cool. The problem with this manga is the endless exposition, even 390 chapters in there are walls of text that makes this manga feel like I'm reading the wiki for this manga and not the manga itself.
It is a testament to the brilliance of this manga despite all that I was still engaged in the story even after the beginning of this newest arc.
The characters are good but you can go a long while without seeing them and often it's out of sight out of mind with ... most of them.
TBH, reding this manga makes me feel like the author should have been written this story for a video game instead.

The only risk? To become more demanding and to not be able to find a manga as good as Hunter X Hunter!

Hunter X Hunter was first released in 1998. It is still going on even if there are actually less than 400 chapters (One Piece has been in progress since 1997 with more than 900 chapters / Naruto was published in 1999 and ended in 700 chapters).

This manga is well-known for having the greatest number of breaks (with Berserk). Fans are looking forward to the next chapters and a new anime.
There are 2 versions of the anime. The 2011 version covers about the majority of ... the manga. In my opinion, the only flaw of the manga is the drawing however the anime has reworked the features of the characters making them much more enjoyable to watch.

So where to start my review...
First of all, some might be doubtful about starting this manga because of the age of the two main characters: Gon and Killua. They are 11 years old which looks pretty young and yet :This manga is a masterpiece, one of the best shonen I have ever seen/read. It has nothing to envy to its fellows Naruto or even One Piece (even if the two mangas are also classics).

Highly charismatic characters
None of the characters are alike except for the long nose which can surprise at first. Women are as badass as men, the oldest ones are as adventurous as the youngest ones. Clearly there is no weak character in Hunter X Hunter. This is not a question about physical strength, it is about intelligence and the mastery of his own power.
Some antagonists are looking for absolute power. We are not overflowed with backgrounds sadder than the others. The bad guys are bad, end of story! You will hate some of them while you will adore others like Hisoka, an antagonist who can sometimes become an ally, he is recognizable since he is inspired by the Joker.
Friendship is certainly exploited but this bond allows each character to surpass himself by training. They don't get strong just like this is nothing. They train, they learn from their mistakes, they implement strategies and rely on each other.

The Nen is to Hunter X Hunter what the chakra is to Naruto
In short, each character can develop a power, it is up to him to choose it according to some criteria. Therefore, we can see completely different powers and above all very well exploited.

Smart fights
Physical strength is not everything, the context of the fight, the analysis of his opponent, the control of his power are extremely useful. There are few power-ups unlike many of shōnens which, in my opinion, use its too often. With Hunter X Hunter, strategy first and that is why this is so great. We are always surprised asking for more and more.

In summary
I regularly watch scenes or even whole arcs of this anime. For me the arcs "Yorkshin City" and "Kimera Ants" are among the best arcs all shōnens included. In Hunter X Hunter nothing is taken for granted, what will pay off is work and will. So trust me, you're clearly not going to be disappointed. The only risk? To become more demanding and to not be able to find a manga as good as Hunter X Hunter.

P.S. You will find the same review on the 2011 version of the anime. However, I removed 1 point from the manga version because of the drawings and the time we have to wait between releases.

Hunter x Hunter is probably one of my very favorite stories of all time. Excellently written, it's a deconstruction of typical shonen tropes. Every arc and character has a purpose in the overall story, and it is one of the few stories where the protagonists and antagonists are equally compelling. The main narrative six characters (Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Hisoka, Illumi, and Chrollo) all foil each other in very interesting ways, and the story can veer from lighthearted adventure to dark ponderings on the evil humanity is capable of without even feeling uneven. The framing is excellent and the story's themes are powerful.

It has great ... female characters (my only complaint about HxH is that there were no female characters until Yorknew Arc, but after that, they're there and they're awesome and thematically relevant with powerful arcs--especially Palm, Neon, Oito, Komugi, and Alluka). Speaking of Alluka, she is great trans representation. In general, the side characters are highly compelling.

Writing a review about something you like THIS much is... Very hard for me.

A lot harder than taking the time to absolutely shit on something you hate for a few paragraphs of text, explaining the many reasons why you hate it. Which is why i've basically never seriously attempted it until now.

Conveying to anyone why i love something feels like it can't be done with just the words in my own vocabulary, but nonetheless i hope this review can express to everyone reading why i think Hunter x Hunter is Yoshihiro Togashi's most successful work, not just in terms of the number of copies sold ... but also in terms of the authors own artistic expression.

To me, the most intriguing aspect of Hunter x Hunter as a story is the sheer variety of settings, themes and tones it has from moment to moment while still feeling as if it all belongs together. This is something i feel was missing from Togashi's second most well-known manga, Yu Yu Hakusho (which i also love) due to his turbulent history with it as it was still being published. On principle, Hunter x Hunter is an action adventure manga targeted towards young japanese boys just as Yu Yu Hakusho was, but in practice, i'd say what Togashi actually did with Hunter x Hunter was use what his audience and editors expected and wanted from him as tools to create whatever he wanted instead of viewing them as limitations or guidelines. Everything in this story, from the beat-by-beat action to where and why anything happens at all, are all completely subservient to Togashi and whatever he feels like doing at that moment in time.

THE ACTION
I'd say almost every action scene here after a certain point early on in the story serves an extremely introspective character based purpose, since Togashi tends to put a lot of focus on the many thoughts every character involved in any given conflict has as the action progresses rather than purely focusing on their physical, tangible actions. Even when the character's inner monologues don't seem completely relevant to what is currently happening or in some cases where we know for a fact that a character's thoughts and assumptions of a situation are completely wrong due to information that was given to us prior but not to the character, Togashi makes sure we know the thought process behind everything, because that way Hunter x Hunter always manages to feel like a coherent, living, breathing world. It's also very common for fights to be a lot shorter than one would expect or want, and even more common for fights to be completely one-sided beatdowns, as if the other side never really had a chance of winning as opposed to the usual desperate struggle until one of the characters finally proves that their power level was superior afterall.

THE ADVENTURE
The "adventure" aspect of this series basically serves as a way of removing all the main players from any given setting and inserting them into another whenever Togashi decides hes done everything he wanted to there. Even when a setting has almost infinite amounts of potential for further elaborations and adventures, it's not all that common to get a second glimpse at any place that the characters have moved past with one of the only exceptions to this being the island in which the main character was raised in. Since the main players are in a constant search for a specific person/item, there is always a perfectly understandable reason for the characters to simply move along without being stuck on one place for longer than what Togashi wants/needs.

THE FANTASY
Another thing that makes Hunter x Hunter a lot different to Yu Yu Hakusho is that Hunter x Hunter goes a lot harder in the fantasy elements. Instead of taking place in "current year, Japan", Hunter x Hunter takes place in a pretty chaotic and completely made up world while still being heavily based on our own planet earth. By creating this incredible world with just the amount of fantasy elements needed, Togashi basically guaranteed himself that he could never run out of usable ideas for both settings and characters. Bounty hunters, genocidal gangs, killer clowns, kings with super powers, multifaceted political conflicts involving those same previously mentioned lunatics, alien man-eating ants and reincarnation is all fair game.

CONCLUSION
Basically this story is so unpredictable that it feels like a child getting distracted every few minutes by the new cool thing it just found, someone who is just happy to be there at all, and i can't help but feel the same whenever i read it. It's so intricate and seemingly planned out far ahead of time that you can't help but try and see where it goes next even though you fail at doing that every time, the gift that keeps on giving...
Except for when its on hiatus.
It's very well known at this point that since 2006 the publication for this series has been very inconsistent due to Togashis poor health to the point where, even though it's only one year younger than One Piece, Hunter x Hunter currently sits at 400 chapters as i'm writing this.
But i have to say, this doesn't really discourage me as much as i know it does for a lot of other people.
At the end of the day, Togashis health matters more than anything else, and i feel like i would be plenty satisfied with the 400 banger chapters we've already gotten, and Togashi seems very determined to actually finish this story despite his condition.
So all we can do is pray that he is okay and wait for another batch of chapters to eventually drop on our laps.

I'll be there no matter what.

HxH is a fantastic series. It starts off as deceptively innocent and generic but by the end of the first volume, all of that is proven to be just an illusion.

The series has incredible morally grey antagonists that have their own motivations and existence outside of the plot and they always stay very relevant in the story after their subsequent arc (bar one exception).

The main characters are very unique and each have their own goals and personalities that distinguish them and follow their own journeys. Gon and Killua's chemistry and friendship are also very well written.

The story also has a very considerable amount of depth ... and realism that mirrors our world and doesn't just limit itself to handing generic "life lessons" to its readers like "don't give up" or "hardwork beats talent" but instead creates very nuanced and realistic situations and explores mature themes, even taboo ones pretty openly and deeply.

The creativity in designs is also astonishing and the art style is very unique.

The fights are very strategic and the power system is brilliant and results in infinite possibilities without leading to escalation.

All in all, Togashi has crafted arguably the best possible shonen series.

Hunter X Hunter is a manga that I both love and hate.

I loved the parts before the Chimera ants, and I hate everything about it after the Chimera ants.

Everything felt fresh and new, and the author feels like he gave up on the manga after Greed Island.

It becomes apparently because the quality of his artwork drops and it starts looking like scribbles then the plot suddenly has huge changes, characters get killed off before they do anything.... it feels like a giant mess; it felt like he wanted to restart the story.

Then all of a sudden even the main character undergoes a big change, ... he finds what he wanted to find, and then the story starts to take influence from like Toriko where you find out there's a whole new world out there.

Like what am I reading? Did you even plan this story out? Why is there suddenly a whole new world and everyone's dead/disabled/not talked about anymore?

hxh a manga started in 1998 by togashi creator of yu yu hakasho also hxh is a realy beatifull and peacefull manga its unexpected with its events anything can happen you can think of 10 ideas of the next frame but it just brings an unexpected thing its realy crazy it had realy cool fight moments where you get emotional and hyped even tho its just a drawing so the anime: the anime of hxh is realy good from music to a lot of things togashi realy worked hard on it from real cool familes and side charecters well written mc your jsut ... hungry for more information you just want to know what is happening in this world this is not the best togashi can do after the anime togashi started one of the best arcs its still on going he has issues so i think its a monthly manga you can catch up if you want thats why i would say hxh is one of the best [mangas] id say its competing with one piece togashi puts LOTS of deatails tthat you even get bored one time i was watching hxh and i slept from the amount of information it takes him lots of episiode togashi likes to be deatailed A LOT you might be femalair with the meme panel of togashi he nearly took a whole page just to write i thgout i was reading a book not a manga give it a try if you didnt like the yorknew arc then just drop it its one of the best arcs id say and most fun.

Short and spoiler-free review:
The beginning of Hunter x Hunter was amazing. However, around the end of the Chimera Ant arc, I encountered changes which really turned me off.
I don't like how every single of one the characters became like 800 IQ and forcing the reader to read their thoughts as they describe a whole quantum-physics theory or something during the 10 seconds where it was supposed to play out.
This continued and took a stronger turn after it. It just became... not fun to read.
All of a sudden, the manga was filled with unnecessary characters, unnecessary world-building, unnecessary events, unnecessary monologues and dialogues. They ... are unnecessary, since I didn't find most of them relevant to the story at all. Stuff just came and went without any impact or having consequences.
Since Hunter x Hunter is a shonen, it stuns me how instead of exciting scenes, we get hundreds of boring chunks of texts.
In my opinion, Togashi tried to make Hunter x Hunter much more than what it should be for its own good.

I get that since it started more than 20 years ago, the creator wanted to give the now mature audience more 'mature' content. I get the feeling it could appeal to some people, but this isn't Hunter x Hunter anymore which I enjoyed once.

I gave it a chance, as after watching the anime, I've caught up with the manga. I really tried to like it, and while I can't say that I didn't get some enjoyment out of it, it was overshadowed by the downs.

If I'd had to rate first half of it, it would definetely be a 9 or 10. Due to my problems with it, it became a weak 6 for me.

this is just the best
perfect story with every kind of feelings inside, based on friendship like all other animes but this is just best of them
the thing that seperates this anime/manga from others is, hxh is so intense has no useless stuff in it and has great 1v1 battles, not just based on 2 kids, there are so many great characters and they all have their own great stories
and most of all the best thing is the improvement of people, for example they dont just get evolved in no time, they need to train so hard and get their result.
and probably the only bad thing ... is togashi's illness :(

HunterXHunter is an atypical Shonen manga.
At first, it starts like any other Shonen (although with a peculair mood that already feels different from anything else), but quickly reveals to readers its true form.
The real revelation, though, is that HunterXHunter doesn't have a true form.
It is a story perpetually in metamorphosis: at first its purely a battle Shonen, but then it's an espionage thriller story, but then an isekai story, but then a horror and a love story, and much more. The focus shifts and the protagonist might change. The moral line that separates heroes from villains might get so blurred that you're not sure you're ... rooting for the good guys anymore. Almost all Shonen tropes and archetypes are thrown out the window in favor of a story that feels fresh, grounded and real, but still endearingly whimsical. HunterxHunter's themes and story are everchanging, providing incredible entertainment value and narrative variety, and yet it maintains a really strong identity throughout, never losing the grip on the true essence of its characters, their growth and the world. It always changes and surprises, but never betraying itself.
The only flaws that stop this masterpiece from achieving perfection is a violently fluctuating quality of the drawings and a few narrative asspulls that author Yoshihiro Togashi had to come up with in order to get out of some narrative dead-ends that he put himself in.

Ah, Hunter x Hunter. Simply the best battle shounen ever created!

I will divide this review into five sections: Story, Art, Characters, enjoyment and personal taste.

Story: 10/10. Whether it's world building, battles or foreshadows, all of this is perfect in hunter x hunter, managing to move me in some parts.

Art: 8/10. The illustrations are good, but sometimes inconsistent (chapter 337 says so). However, we have to take into account that Yoshihiro Togashi has a chronic back problem.

Characters: 9.9/10. Togashi managed to strike a beautiful balance with his characters, especially between the protagonists. There are few that I don't like, but they were enough to take a ... tenth off the grade.

Enjoyment: 10/10. This manga is so good that I marathoned it in thirteen days, my experience was incredible and I have nothing to complain about.

Personal taste: 10/10.

Overall: 10/10.

I think the most impressive thing about HxH is how it avoid the usual stagnation that ruins the long running shounen. Most long shounens seem to be based mostly around a unique setting or concept that will make it easily stand out and hopefully sell, with little thought given to the long-term story development.

HxH feels like a more planned out story, it's different (although it does have some very good worldbuilding). Each arc is based in a different location with it's own self-contained storyline that still serves to the overall narrative of the main characters (each has their own personal motivation). The arcs themselves switch ... between genres and characters to keep things fresh and even the main protagonist Gon is just a minor character in some arcs. The series plays around with many shounen tropes, doing them much better justice than in most other series. The characters are very well developed and the fights are mostly tactical, it avoids most of the shortfalls a long running shounen can be exposed to.

The main flaws in the series include the art, which is lacking in many panels and some asspull moments. HxH doesn't totally escape the shounen traps, there are some dead characters who come back to life when they really shouldn't, a couple of fights are won with nakama power etc luckily these events are not very frequent. Those defincencies aside it's one of the best shounen series around, action, drama, psychological thrills, great worldbuilding and characters HxH has it all.

Hunter x Hunter easily ranks amongst the most interesting shounen manga ever made. At the same time, it is also amongst the most frustrating ones, as it has several mishaps.

Let’s start with the story. It’s about a little boy named Gon, looking for his father who is a Hunter, a super mercenary of sorts travelling the world and doing missions and quests. Like finding something rare or arresting a wanted criminal. So in the context of the story, that little boy decides that the best way to find him is to become one ... himself. And here you are, having a 12 year old boy rivalling hundreds of tough adult grunts for the rank of Hunter.

Sounds stupid doesn’t it? Especially when taking into account that he is totally weak, unskilled and his personality is like that of a saint inside a den of cannibals. Well, frankly it is. It is frakking impossible to buy it. The story does a good job at showing how friendship and teamwork can work through all that but it still is damn hard to buy it. Anyways, this is just the core story … and it gets nowhere. The boy never finds his father. In fact, this hardly matters as much as everything else in terms of character development or side stories. Which are both a lot in numbers and of a good level of storytelling.

Well, that is not really the point. The whole story is actually about a team of kids (and an almost token adult) passing tests and facing difficulties, as means to develop their skills and achieve their goals. Heck, 90% of the plot is either doing quests, duels or simple research in order to get to that meagre 10% of actual progress in the story. And to the most part is slow and dull. I am fully aware that this anime is famous for being the exact opposite of slow and dull. But what I am referring to here is the pacing. Very few things happen in each episode and even those are done in a non-exciting way. This is mostly a problem of the poor use of cinematics the sections of animation and sound have, rather than the actual story.

The artwork is average to bad, with minimalistic character figures, simple lighting effects, and usually weak motion effects. It imporves along the way but it never looks great. For a long period of time the battles aren’t that many in numbers or not very exciting like in most shounen action manga. That is of course excused by the fact the characters in the beginning were weak and possessed no major special powers. That still makes it feel dull and drops the reread value. But it is wrong to see this as a fighting action series alone. Most confrontations, although very simple in choreography, have lots of wits and it is brains and not muscles that matter in most of them. That by the way does not save the artwork from feeling boring. With proper handling, even a turtle sleeping can look amazing. And with all these frozen panels, generic character figures, and semi-interesting major battles, this isn’t what I’m talking about.

Now back to the pacing. As I said, the initial chapters can be excused to be uneventful because they focus on getting to know the characters, as well as to keep in touch with the simple fact they are wimps. Not really a negative but it does make a lot of them to have no reason to read twice. The magic of Media Res could help to start at a more exciting point in the plot and just present the rest as flashbacks or something. Anyways, the first dozen chapters are just to get to know them and then up to half of the series on how they pass the Hunter exam. It is still not much of a story and it’s the characters and their individual side stories that keep you interested. After that, the second half slowly makes the characters stronger and some missions get really serious, as professional killers enter and things get far more dangerous. At this point, the manga became a more traditional shounen type story and to be honest has more meat to keep watching. Plus it didn’t take out the feeling of strategy and wits in battles. Thus it really is the same, only better. It improves to the point where you feel you are watching Dragonball Z but with more wits… Still not much of a story though. And Gon’s father is nothing but a vague backdrop by now. Seriously, up until the third arc Gon is hardly doing anything; it’s just his friend getting his revenge. Then there is this vague mission of looking for him but the objective is very vague and still distant.

I have a very negative impression of how the manga develops later on. What’s going on with the arc goals anyway? First they want to become Hunters and THEN they train to become strong? Doesn’t that make the whole title of a Hunter feel piss poor? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? And then what the hell was that business with the videogame? The third arc is about raising money to buy a game. Does that seem a logical upscale from someone taking part in deadly tournaments to be arm-wrestling for a videogame? Or an entire arc just playing that very videogame while gathering cards as if it’s a Yu-Gi-Oh rip-off? The fourth arc ain’t much better; now they are hunting bugs. Why are the arcs going in reverse in terms of build up? What will their ultimate challenge be; to save a cat from a tree? It felt like the story starts with the lead wanting to become big macho Hokage and slowly making him return back to Ninja Kindergarten.

Not to mention the whole business of the videogame, this strikes me as nothing but crude marketing promotion of videogames and card games. They threw away the initial premise of a boy going on an adventure to find his lost father and replaced it with “buy card games and play videogames” commercials. I mean, come on, the story became “pay ten million bucks to play a videogame where you gather cards that will combine into the super card that will magically grand you a wish like the goddamn Dragonballs.” And did I just saw a cute girl transform into a brute male adult somewhere in there? What horsesh*t is this? Where did the pure feeling of the beginning go to? Furthermore the story is not over yet, but the mangaka is making a new chapter at a much slower pace than before, as if he reached a writer’s block. That is not very good.

By the way, I’d be damned if Kishimoto didn’t rip off the Hunter Exam arc to make the Chuunin Exam arc in Naruto, as well as the red eyes of a vengeful friend.

So the characters are the meat of the story and it’s quite the likable cast as far as shounen go. Each one of the major and secondary characters is given a rather high amount of attention and “usually” some development other than his superpowers. They are still far from fully fleshed out characters though. Gon for example is impossible to relate to as everything is in his eyes one big rainbow of joy. You can stab him in the heart only to hear him asking for forgiveness because his blood stained your knife. As much as good hearted as he may be, he has no chance of surviving in the jungle that is the human civilization like that. Heck, let’s face it, he managed to become a Hunter only because all the super fighters he faced refused to hurt him. Although not completely two-dimensional, they all lack real depth or even reasonable reactions. As for catharsis, well, Gon’s father is not found and the revenge thing was not completed, so nothing here either. Not to forget mentioning how everything feels like going in reverse from wanting to become Hokage to saving cats from trees (random parallelism). What you get are semi-developed characters at best, whose backdrop is quite the typical shounen archetype formula.

Down to it, it still is a good shounen, as its internal logic surpasses most of everything in the genre. Most quests require strategy, field tactics, even psychology to overcome and it’s only much later where characters get all DBZ that “my battle power is greater than yours” becomes an issue. Even then, the reason “this power beats that power” is also excused nicely. But it still is not a series you watch for the battles as I said numerous times, they are few major ones and they are all handled poorly. I mean, the show is full of people being eaten alive by monsters or killed horribly by top assassins and yet it makes it feel like you are feeding ducks over at the park lake. Seriously, with different handling it could easily become a horror / survival to the most part. Yet all you get is Gon saying “Let’s be friends” while all around him people are nihilistically chewed alive by monsters or are decapitated by yawning assassins. This is a shounen series but, geez, the context is way off. If you are not willing to show it at its proper way, don’t show it at all. Atmosphere failure; that alone made the show half-likable.

Bottom line. Although terribly similar to Naruto (and damn ripped off by it), it really is superior to it, despite the worse artwork and reverse build up. And since most people still consider Naruto to be amongst the top fighting shounen around (not me; I’m too smart to fall for that), that means it’s good stuff. Yet at the same time it lacks the tension of most modern shounens in terms of atmosphere and that can make its superior tactics and deep character immersion to lose a lot of credit.

In other news, other shows like Kaiji or Liar Game eat its tactics for breakfast, and Full Metal Alchemist does an overall far better job in terms of action, character immersion, and proper use of cinematics. You have been informed.

THIS IS A SPOILER FREE REVIEW!!!!!

Hunter x Hunter is coming back! But before it continues we must analyze what it has done until now in order to decide whether we want to keep on reading it. I'm writing a manga review for HxH because the anime is painfully slow so I dropped it and started reading the manga. I find the manga to be the best version of HxH because the pacing is way better. In this review I am only going to be focusing on the manga.

Hunter x Hunter has a premise and structure of generic shonen because, after all, that is what HxH ... really is-a shonen. But it still feels quite refreshing after shonens like Naruto, DBZ and anime of that sort because although it has the same structure, the way that structure is executed beats other shonen anime. Except FMA, of course.

The story of HxH is divided into 8 story arcs. The first arc, Hunter exam, is the introductory arc whose purpose is to introudouce the characters and the setting. The strategy in this story arc was great and the main characters, except Gon, have a lot of potential. All in all, Hunter exam is a great intoductory arc, 7/10.

Then comes the Zoldyck family arc in which we meet Killua's family. This arc was mostly pointless as it's way too short and it's resolution is very underwhelming. We get a glimpse of who Zoldyck family are, so it's not a total disaster, but overall this is one of the weaker parts of Hunter x Hunter, 5/10.

Then comes the HxH's tournament arc, Heaven's arena. The power sytem, Nen, is introdouced in this story arc and I must say that it's the greatest power system in shonen anime. It's very complex but with a defined ruleset and the manga never deviates from them. There are no asspulls nor plot armor. Just battles of wits and Nen machups. The battle between Gon and one of the villains of the series, Hisoka was great and served as a great conclusion to Heaven's arena, 8/10.

Now, enter HxH's greatest story arc, Yorknew city. In this arc we get to meet the Phantom Troupe, the villainous organization in HxH's world. What's so great about them is that we get to meet individual members of the group. Sure, they are all 1D characters, but they have just as much depth as the story requires for them to have. It's impossible to flesh out so many characters in one story arc, so getting to meet them as individuals is more than enough to appreciate the intimidating and compelling group of villains such as the Phantom Troupe. 8/10

Just when I tought that things will get better and better, I got dissapointed by HxH's fifth story arc-Greed Island. Gon and Killua are now in a videogame and they are supposed to train in order to get stronger. The thing is, we see too much of their training and it's not really plot relevant. Sure, Greed Island has epic battles near the end of the arc, but you could remove 80% of it and not miss anything important. Also, the villain of this arc, Genthru is one of the most poorly written villains in manga, 4/10.

The longest and the most acclaimed arc of HxH-the Chimera Ant arc is another dissapointment. It has the same issues like Greed Island-too long with too much unnecesary content. People usually like this story arc because it has epic, tense and dramatic moments, and I have to say I've never seen anything being as praised because of the very small minority of its content. Most of Chimera Ant arc was a snooze-fest, 5/10.

Chairman elections arc did not have much events but it had one of the most badass Leorio moments. It's basically the aftermath of Chimera Ants. It's greatest thing is that it didn't outstay its welcome and ended quickly so it get a 6/10.

The ongoing Dark Continent arc is the second best story arc in Hunter x Hunter and if it cointinues to be just as intriguing as it was until now it's going to top the Yorknew City arc. However, it's not for the impatient as there is a lot of text. Dark Contintent gives off lovecraftian vibes, 8/10.

Action and fight scenes in HxH are among the best, if not THE best ones in anime and manga. They are very strategic and intelligent and usaully the smartest one comes out on top, even if their foe is more powerfull. The outcome of the battles depends on quick thinking and creativity of combatants. Nen is the most complex anime power system and among the ones used the most creativley. Hunter x Hunter's fights also tend to be tense and dramatic. My favourite fight in HxH is Chrollo vs Hisoka form dark continent arc, but there are many amazing fights such as: Uvogin vs Shadow beasts, Gon vs Hisoka, Gon vs Genthru, etc.

Characters of HxH, although disposable, serve their purpose in their arc respectivley. They all have a role in the story and none of those roles feel wasted nor redundant. However, the characterization itself is not perfect. My favourite character in HxH is Kurapika because of his lust for revenge consuming him which results in great character development. The problem is with the two main characters, Gon and Killua who don't really develop until very late in the story. I stopped caring for the two main characters at the point when they got development. There are much better shonen protagonists than Gon such as: Edward, Gintoki, Tatsumi, even Ichigo has a more compelling personality.

The villains of Hunter x Hunter are regarded as on of the anime's greatest villains, but I disagree. I don't think a single one of HxH's villains is well written because of one main thing-no moral characterization. Everybody is a psychopath, even the main characters don't care about anyone else except themselves and their friends. Hisoka is fine killing anyone just for fun. He doesn't have any principles. He is just a psychopath. More detailed reasons for me disliking the villains in HxH are:
1.Chrollo has no backstory. Sure, not all villains need backstories, but Chrollo doesn't have an ideology either. He is just a mysterious gang leader. The veil of mystery surrounding Chrollo is there to hide the fact that he is a 1D character.
2.Genthru is just bad. I don't even have to elaborate this one, everyone knows Getnthru sucks.
3.Meruem has good development, but it was ripped off from Dragon Ball Z. His personality is a Frieza ripoff, his development is Vegeta ripoff and his character design is Cell ripoff. Meruem is not an original character, he is just three DBZ villains into one.
All in all, characters of HxH are well-written, especially the minor ones, but its villains aren't nearly as compelling as people claim for them to be.

The artwork of HxH looks good on some panels, but those panels are rare. Most of HxH's artwork is way too simple. Character designs are basic and backgrounds are almost non-existent. This is by far the weakest aspect of Hunter x Hunter.

Although HxH has HUGE fluctuations in quallity, it's better than the sum of its parts because of well used characters, greatest fights in animanga and an improved version of the classic shonen structutre. My conclusion is: Yes, you should read enitre HxH manga if you are a shonen fan and you should keep on reading when the new chapters arrive. Thank you for reading!

Hunter x Hunter is an incredibly well-written and gripping manga series. The story is incredibly unique and captivating, and the characters are incredibly well written and developed. The plot of the series is so engaging, with a lot of twists and turns that keep the readers on their toes. The art is also top-notch and the fight scenes are incredibly well-choreographed and visually appealing.

The series is also incredibly emotionally engaging. The characters are all very likable and the relationships between them are developed very well. The characters all have their own distinct personalities and motivations, making the story much more compelling to read. The themes ... of friendship, loyalty, and courage are explored deeply in the series, and it's these themes that draw readers in and make them care about the characters.

The plot of Hunter x Hunter is incredibly intricate, with a lot of subplots and twists, and the pacing of the series is just perfect. The series starts off with a slow build up, but the story quickly picks up and keeps the readers hooked until the very end. The series also has a lot of interesting and unique creatures and monsters, making the world of Hunter x Hunter all the more interesting.

Overall, Hunter x Hunter is an incredibly well written and engaging manga series that is sure to keep readers entertained and invested in the story. This is definitely a series that should not be missed.

Very average manga. The arcs feels very loosely connected, and you feel like a pinball, the magic system is the worst- extremley soft and "whatever i need for the plot", yet extremley convoluted and sciencey (a chapter full of 90% text is needed to explain it which comes out to be 'anything is possible, for some people, unless I want it for others too').
Except killuah none of the characters have real depth to them, most of the character have some, but not as detailed as in other mangas, (saying that, they are still very likeable!).
It starys fine, and with great promise but than it revealed ... to be very illplaned- stuff happen for story convinience, charecters don't act as they reasonably would etc.

The good: charecters interactions, charm, sympetetic characyers, adveturous world
The bad: magic system, plot conviniences, flow continuity

I want to talk only about the last arch. The rest of the story is great, even amazing, if you are tired of your run of the hill shounen, Hunter X Hunter can provide you with something beyond, more dark, macabre, violent, beyond anything you get from Naruto, Fairy Tail, Bleach and even One Piece. That is it. It is THE abnormal shounen that is biased towards the more dark stories and violent stories. If you, recent fan of manga, in need of something less tamed, welcome to Hunter X Hunter where your best friend comes from a famous family of assassins and he is ... as brutal as they come.


Now, about the last arch, I found it exhausting. It is full of useless dialogues and narrations that gets in the way of a good pace. Of course, this isn`t something new with HxH, but it got worse now since this will probably be the longest arch of the series. Through the entirety of HxH, you have your "villains" and they are what you expect, of course, this being HxH, they feel more violent than your common shounen villain. HxH villains make Fairy Tail`s villains look like you old collage friend you used to talk to and now is trying to get you to invest in his "bitcoin job". Now, hell, about 80-90% of the characters in the current arch are somewhat villains (not that HxH ever defines villains that much, the grey aspect of its characters is what makes HxH intriguing) but to the over saturation, there is more than 100 characters for you to track and that makes the plot really hard to follow, specially since, as stated, full of useless dialogues and narrations, and even more: plot points that could`ve been dropped for the improvement of story as a whole.

However, what will define this as a masterpiece or another over colluded plot is the ending of the arch which does promises something amazing. One cannot but hope that the author`s health improves and he manages to end the manga. We already lost the master of Berserk, losing the one from HxH seems like another huge blow to the manga fandom.

I think writing my reviews using many words would not giving any helpful comments for the community. many people already stating their minds. i will keep it short.

the story tells with the projections of to know the thoughts of the characters written in this manga, a splendid job. we the readers can see the story goes with the perspectives of the characters. making us learn to think as of so many characters available in this manga, they all have their unique morale standards and also dfferent level of maturity presented with different problems.

keeping tracks of how the story progress, sometimes a bit frustaring. because there ... is no progress at all from end 2018 to 2021.

this manga will be one of my favs ever.

i grows reading this shonen manga, and i feel the maturity of the the story goes legitly as my age does. but there are so many gap in the chapters releases, hahaa.

Hunter x Hunter has incredible character development. It can be divided into roughly 5 arcs, all which span several volumes and are carefully crafted so as to not leave any holes in the plot. You will rarely be wondering how something is possible, as the author covers every possible ground to make what is happening on the pages coherent. Battles are won through cunning over strength, and many great characters will either die or be left by the wayside when their time comes, giving you the sense of impermeability with the characters one has grown fond of. Hunter x Hunter has the action of a ... Shonen but has the plot and text on par with a great psychological Sienen. The story only receives an 8 from me because the last arc, which is on hiatus i believe, is sloppily drawn, and honestly would be hard to top considering the magnitude of the arc before it. The art is loose at times but is more than made up for by the fabulous text. The character development is so strong that one will know what the characters are feeling before they even feel it, and it gives the reader a strong sense of attachment. If there is one manga I come back to over and over, it this one. The plot is so well done that one could pick a any volume in the series and immediately be taken in.
