Okay this is my first review because I simply had to review this manga. It was just terrible.
For a Takanaga Hinako work, this was too dreadful. The art was probably the saving grace of the manga and even so, it wasn't very good. Well, this was one of her earlier mangas so I guess I can't compare her better ones with this.
Plot-wise was horrible.I did pity Kouta for having to bear with Akira's character but lost pity for him after his countless times of forgiving Akira and his weak-will. I kept waiting for Kouta to snap and go: "That's it, I can't take it anymore."
...
or something along those lines but it never came. The mini argument/ temper-tantrum between the two wasn't enough. I felt that it was too easy for Akira -- he just had to whisper some sweet words to Kouta and voila! They get back together. How amazing the power of love is! *claps*
The part where Kouta fell down the stairs gave me a ray of hope. He could follow the cliches and lose his memory or something. Anything that will make Akira TRULY realise Kouta's importance to him would do. BUT no, all was forgiven with kisses and a little seduction from Akira. Even after that, I continued reading for I wanted to see Akira's new change of heart. And I was disappointed again. Akira is a cheater who cheats and cheats and cheats even after he made Kouta admit that he didn't want him to sleep with anyone else. After the hospital scene I was thinking that there was hope for Akira after all but the ending killed it. Even if you are gay, sleeping with the opposite gender IS STILL CHEATING. The ending was bad with the fact that Kouta was unaware of Akira's sleeping around behind his back and yet he continued to work hard because Akira lied to him and demanded him to do so. Akira is one of the poorest character ever and let's not talk about Kouta's wimpy tendencies.
Overall, Study Hard isn't worth the read unless you are very bored and want to rage at poor plots. While it did seem promising at first, everything slowly goes downhill after the two move to Tokyo. I would encourage people to ignore this manga and read Takanaga Hinako's other works. They definitely showcase her talent more than this manga, art and plot-wise.
Ok that was long but I needed to get it out of my system, honestly I would have given it a 1 if not for some of its rather ok saving points like the art.
