Synopsis

Famed horror manga artist Junji Itou loves nothing more than to stand and admire the fresh white wallpaper, gleaming floors, and smell of his brand-new house. But his happiness is short-lived when his fiancée, A-ko, reminds him of her plan to bring her cat Yon into their new abode. As an avid dog person, Junji experiences chills down his spine whenever he recalls Yon's uncanny face and a seeming skull on his furry coat. When A-ko also decides to adopt another cat, Muu, to keep Yon company, he fears that all hell will break loose.

With Yon and Muu's arrival, the wallpaper is quickly covered in shiny, protective sheets; the floor is marred with scratches; and the stench of the litter box hangs heavy in the air. The two cats become quick friends, and—to Junji's surprise—endear themselves to the new cat owner as well. As they grow closer, the manga artist begins to believe that living with cats may not be so bad after all.

Junji Ito's Cat Diary – Spoiler Free – Recommended

TLDR
Overall: 6/10

Disclaimer: due to the nature of this work – a collection of short stories –, my normal parameters of Story, Art, Characters and Enjoyment with a weighted average won’t be applied. Instead, a global overview will be offered.

Junji Ito’s Cat Diary is his take on a light-hearted comedy about his cats – Yon and Muu. It is actually funny to see how he uses some of the same horror visual elements in his stories to make some comic relief moments.
His cats are, without a doubt, cute, that’s a certainty, and Junji Ito uses his ...

This is the first review I've done so I'm sorry if it isn't longer than other reviews on this website. As I write reviews, I'll make them longer each time.

Ito Junji no Neko Nikki: Yon & Mu is the first-ever manga I've read by Junji Ito. I enjoy his art style since you don't typically see that kind of style in other mangaka's works. I also enjoyed the story of having to deal with cats on an everyday basis since I own two cats myself.

For the characters, I'm gonna review the humans and then the cats. The humans, J-kun and A-ko, were fun to ...

Mixed Feelings
Today, we’re looking at his cat diary that he wrote when he and his wife first got married. In the manga, he dubbed over their names and called them like J-san, A-ko, Yon, Muu, etc. It actually hardly matters because the focus on the story on how he’s trying to cope living with cats, since he’s a dog person.

What makes this pretty funny is that he’s telling a non-horror story using his signature horror style. It kinda makes things creepier than he intended but once you’re stuck in a style, it’s hard to get out of it.

There are a lot of moments where we can ...
