Synopsis

The young Ludwig von Beethoven struggles to make his way as a musician despite the exploitation of the aristocracy, harsh wars, degenerative health problems, and the personal persecution of a young nobleman, Franz Creutstein, who has chosen Ludwig as the target of vicious abuse fueled by Franz's rage over his mother's death and father's cruelty. Tezuka’s unfinished symphony, Ludwig B (1987-89) was published in Comic Tom from June 1987 to February 1989 – ending abruptly, mid-story, with Osamu Tezuka’s untimely death on February 9, 1989. A fictionalized biography, it is similar in (planned) scope to his earlier biographical manga series, Buddha (1972-83).

The story begins in Vienna, circa 1762 with the birth of Franz, son of the Duke of Kreuzstein. When a pet peacock named Ludwig abruptly screeches in the Duke’s pregnant wife’s ear, the shock sends her into premature labour. On the frontiers of death, Osamu Tezuka continued to write manga.
Ludwig B is one of them, and what a pity he's part of the unfinished manga gods... it's sad.

This work is inspired by the life of the famous musician Ludwig Van Beethoven. In a historical context with more or less difficult conditions, where the aristocracy reigns and wars are common, this story tells how the young composer created a path to glory and the recognition of his masters, while undergoing the repeated persecutions of the noble Franz Creustein, the main antagonist of history.
