Synopsis

One day, Sanada Shirou, who works for a black company, is transported to another world. Using his "creation magic", an ability he gained when transported, he opens an inn and is supposed to lead a slow life, but this other world is a little strange?! It is a world where women are overwhelmingly dominant, where women do dangerous work and battle, and where men are powerless and are protected! The daily life of entertaining (in many ways) the women of this other world begins!

At first glance, this manga looks like a strange experiment: mix “slow-life,” “role reversal,” “isekai,” and just a dash of borderline “erotica,” and you’d expect a train wreck. Instead, it turns into something oddly charming. The strength isn’t in its premise alone but in how consistently the author leans into character-driven humor and surprisingly thoughtful dynamics.

The characters are the glue holding everything together. Even with limited screen time due to the arc-based storytelling, each new face is introduced with enough presence to stick. The heroines in particular shine, their interactions with the MC feeling refreshing and occasionally laugh-out-loud thanks to the gender role swap setup.

Synopsis:
After getting sucked into a black hole, Sanada Shirou, finds himself in a world where women are overwhelmingly dominant, they perform the most dangerous jobs, fight on the front lines, and protect their powerless men who are predominately cooks, spouses, and general homemakers. When Shirou first wakes up he discovers that the mainland is at war and after escaping the conflict he finds himself on an uncharted island in this new world. After exploring the island Shirou discovers a dungeon on the island and decides to open an inn so that he can lead the slow island life.

Review:
I enjoyed the concept of being Isekaied ... in a world that is dramatically different from the everyday normalcy here on Earth. Many isakeis typically just add magic and monsters to the normalcy of Earth but this manga goes one step further and performs a gender swap by making women more dominant than men. Currently, I have read through chapter 33 and enjoyed it so far.

Plot (9/10):
The author has developed a world of conflict, crisis, and resolution in this manga. The protagonist who decides to create an inn on the deserted island encounters many different obstacles when trying to lead a slow life. The resolution to the conflicts is often very creative and credible.

Theme (9/10):
“Let’s Run an Inn on Dungeon Island!” contains the central theme of “Strength through the use of magic to overcome adversity and build a harem”. The idea that the protagonist becomes stronger through the use of magic as he builds his harem with every conflict is apparent as the manga progresses. The message is integrated into the plot of the manga, which is presented as a conflict-driven platform.

Characters (9/10):
The author creates characters that are memorable with unique with complex personalities. The reader is constantly rooting for the protagonist as conflict is constantly around the corner. Character development for the protagonist and the characters essential to the main plot are flushed out as the events unfold. The dialogue is distinct, rich, and vivid for each character's persona (i.e. captain of the knights, pirate, vampire…).

Art & Setting (7/10):
“Let’s Run an Inn on Dungeon Island!” is done in the Shounen style of artistry which includes drawing with vibrant colors, very bold features, and dynamic poses. The settings are typically drawn well and are presented in a very realistic and appropriate for the action of the characters being depicted without any anachronisms.

Mechanics (8/10):
I do not speak Japanese but in the translated version that I read, it was very easy to follow and understand what was happening with little to no spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors. However, they did not distract from the enjoyment of the manga and were easy to understand what was meant.

Passion (7/10):
The author is very adept at making you care about what ultimately becomes of the protagonist throughout the manga. The plot and theme of the manga are interesting in that the protagonist was Isekaied into a life that is the opposite of his patriarchal world with a unique skill (Creation Magic).

“Slow-life,” “Erotica,” “Gender-role swap,” and “Isekai” are quite the weird combination of genres, however, it works surprisingly well. Not to say that this formula would work for every manga out there, but with the sheer amount of depth each character and dynamic has been written with makes this manga more than passable as a time-waster.

The characters are the brightest points in this manga; each character doesn’t get that much screen time, since the plot flows in arcs, however, for as little amount of chapters they get to be fully established and progressed, the author balances it quite well, making them all likable and memorable. ...
