Both series explore the psychological states one goes through in sexual situations - whether it be masturbation or having a threesome. Self is more geared towards masturbation, but we are also subjected to other forms of sex. Desire gratifies many facets of sex, including taboo issues such as incest and adultery. 

Lust is the central theme in both these serialisations. Each chapter generally revolves around particular characters are their inner most sexual desires. 

Both series, which are episodic in nature, involve the protagonist in sexual interactions with a variety of women (which are oftentimes one-off characters). Expect a lot of emphasis on sexual fantasy and fetishes. 

Both explore the notion of lust, particularly giving into lust. As such, mature situations are often provided by the two series on a chapter-by-chapter basis. 

Although Hishoka Drop is classified as hentai, Desire is essentially borderline. Both series follow a businessman and his sexcapades. 

These two series serve as an exploration of the often hidden lust inside our subconscious, and the factors that influence our decisions to set it free. 

Both of these serialisations feature different types and facets of sexual relationships. The main difference however is that Desire explores so much more than Koibana Onsen. 

In both serialisations, we follow the sexual escapades of the male protagonists.
