I read the first 11 volumes released for OtaGal this week, and I think it's a pretty nice romcom manga, I recommend it.

As it's often the case with this type of manga, there's nothing groundbreaking, the story revolves around 3 characters, a loner otaku and the 2 most popular girls of their class in highschool. They'll form a friendship and we'll see it evolve through the chapters, with some funny moments, some cute scenes etc...

Otagal works well because it's not trying to be too many things at once : the manga aims clearly for a cozy vibe without drama or trauma or anything ... else, and it will deliver : we'll see the small insecurities of each character and this is entertaining enough. I think that the side characters introduced in this manga are also well done as they offer nice dynamics aswell.

If I had to point out the biggest cons, I'd say that the art in the first chapters/volumes felt a bit underwhelming, it got better through the story and the character designs are good looking, but there aren't that many "incredible panels" in this manga, I can't even think of one as I'm writing this review. Furthermore, I guess that the lack of drama could be seen as a drawback, in the way that events are rather predictable and story/plot wise, this manga doesn't really stand out. It's not a bad story, but it's a rather conventionnal one.

All in all, if you like romcom mangas and you are searching for a light hearted story, there are high chances you'll like this one and you should read it, or at least the first volume that should give you a good idea of what the story has to offer.

Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!? is a surprisingly funny and relatable manga that dives into the awkward, often embarrassing life of an otaku. Unlike typical rom-coms, it doesn’t feature perfect, idealized gals or cliché high school romance setups. Instead, it focuses on characters with quirks, flaws, and personalities that feel exaggerated yet realistic.

The humor is over-the-top and ecchi, but it works in a way that highlights just how awkward social interactions can be when you’re a hardcore otaku. What I really enjoyed was seeing the contrast between the protagonist’s obsessive, nerdy tendencies and the more grounded, yet exaggerated personalities of the supporting cast. Each ... character brings their own energy, making the interactions unpredictable and consistently entertaining.

Even though it’s a short series, it manages to pack in genuinely funny moments, relatable otaku struggles, and light-hearted romantic tension. It’s a manga that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but still delivers moments that resonate with anyone familiar with otaku culture. If you’re looking for something that’s funny, slightly naughty, and oddly relatable, this one is definitely worth a read.

I can't say this is particularly good so far.
The art is very sub-par, with some really bizarre proportions occasionally.
The plot extremely weak and full of generic cliches.
Basic premise is the whole "opposites attract" thing, where a shy introvert befriends a pair of apparently more extroverted girls; shenanigans ensue... sort of. Not much really happens at all.
The incrementally building relationships are actually done pretty well, but through the cringeworthy medium of generic romcom manga tropes. It sets up the MC with two girls vying for his affection, but it seems a complete no-brainer of a decision:
One is a closet otaku, sharing the same interest as him, ... yet ever refuses to admit it. Other than both being fans of a specific series, they really offer nothing to one another, and her refusal to admit it just makes her seem immature, and doing so in front of the openly otaku MC is just frankly insulting.
The other is completely open and honest, and treats him without judgement, accepting his hobby and going out of her way to help him come out of his shell; yet somehow she is not treated as the obvious best choice.
