This is possibly one of the worst series I've read in a long, long time.
No, not because both of the main characters are insufferable. I'd view it as an interesting take on dysfunctional relationships...
...if it weren't for all the senseless, absolutely atrocious drama and plot 'twists' along the way. Seriously, this manga is all over the place. The mid-section (volumes 4-7) is a prime example of how NOT to follow up and tell a story. I'm wondering how this even went through an editor.
90% of the characters behave in a way that makes zero sense, even for an exaggerated drama series. It's not even a
...
matter of motivational shift or the author being prone to bait-and-switch episodes. No. Everybody was simply too erratic, inconsistent, and nuts in a way that can't be excused with 'But they're dysfunctional!' It's just bad writing.
Believe me, I'm used to such stories - from 'Scum's Wish' to 'Dog and scum' to many others, dramatic manga has been my bread and butter for quite a while. There's nothing redeemable about how 'Documentary Of My Ex-Girlfriend Complex' approaches the themes and builds its cast.
A breakdown of this series would be:
Up to chapter 8: Maximum cringe but there must be something beyond that, right?
Chapter 8 to end of Volume 3: Over the top, but seems like it could grow to be a good psychological/revenge story.
Volume 4-7: Nah, not really. It's utter shit.
Volume 8: Half of it is actually pretty decent. Too bad it's built on a mountain of plot holes, needless events, botched characterization, and lack of any logical storytelling.
3/10, what a mess.
