Synopsis

It's the Century of Darkness where monsters known as Vandels rule the world, and the Vandel Busters are the only ones who can fight them. When a group of Busters are killed in battle, they pass on their magic Saiga weapons to Beet, making him the strongest Buster ever. But Beet won't just fight the Vandels—he wants to destroy them and finally end the Century of Darkness.

Background

Boukenou Beet started serialization in Monthly Shounen Jump magazine in the April 2002 issue, published on March 6. In 2004, the series received two anime adaptations, which aired for 77 episodes, and also a card and computer games. On October 6, 2006, because of Inada's illness, the series was put on long term hiatus. Furthermore, with the discontinuation of the magazine on June 6, 2007, it was put on an indefinite hiatus instead. The last chapter before the announcement was published in the September issue on August 5. On December 21, 2015, in the combined third and fourth issue of Weekly Shounen Jump, it was announced that the series will resume serialization next year in the Spring issue of quarterly Jump SQ.Crown magazine published on April 16.

Boukenou Beet has been published in English as Beet the Vandel Buster by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since October 19, 2004.

Spoiler
No Major Spoilers.

Beet The Vandel Buster is an interesting piece of work. On one hand, this manga has been in serialization since 2002, before some of the modern gems like Black Clover that give a similar feeling. On the other hand, it has only around 50 or so chapters available in English after almost 20 years due to constant hiatus and serialization changing. To put it bluntly, this is a weird manga in terms of production. But despite that, this little shonen has a lot of charm under its basic exterior. A seemingly normal shonen world that harbors a plethora of action and potential to ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (Unknown/? eps)
If I had to give a short comparison of Beet, it would be throwing the plot of Bleach into the world of DnD. This relation is interesting, considering Bleach started a year prior to Beet, though the story itself is highly comparable to the Hueco Mundo arc, which obviously didn't exist at the time, so the parallelism may simply be coincidence, but it's uncanny.

You exist in a world of hunters called Busters (Soul Reapers,) who exist solely to slay evil beasts called Vandels (Hollows) whose soul existence is to kill humans. However, experienced Busters have the ability to produce a magical weapon, individual to ...
