There are many times throughout the course of a reader’s career where the detrimental question arises: “I might give up reading, it’s just so boring now”; to be honest, I was at this point after the sheer quantity of trash that I have been reading lately, smothering my passion; yet, this manga relit all of my hopes in an engaging story, since time was passing by, and before I knew it, I was agonizing the moment there was not a next chapter to read. Anyway, here’s a review:
The plot of this manga, though an isekai, doesn’t conform to the usual cliches and tropes — though
...
there are a ton, which I’ll get into later — which makes the plot immensely engaging compared to the counterparts, since the plot points are unpredictable albeit cultural ridiculous at times. That being said, there are tons of cliches that the manga does conform to; however, each one was presented in a smooth and engaging manner while there are hints of unexpectedness with a twist or two in necessary sacrifices to the usual wholesome adventures.
There’s a ton of mixed feelings revolving around the characters of this series for me — on one hand, the characters have been so well-introduced and memorable that it doesn’t matter how the story progresses, I would still be engaged in each one’s story; on the other hand, there hasn’t been much development in most of the characters, and there are a ton of cliche archetypes solely because the manga is a harem manga. That being said, despite the lack of wanted development, there’s tons of emotionally moving stories within the manga to further enhance the immersion and connection to the story and characters.
I had previously read this manga one three separate occasions in the span of three years, dropping it each time due to some unknown reasons; but I thought to myself, this time is the time — and you bet, it was. The plot is rather slow-moving, and the mc is a shota, which is a huge turn-off for many, me included, but the story is so engaging that you’d hardly even notice most of its flaws despite being riddled with some rather stupendous tropes.
You guys know this is just my opinion, right?
