The same author as Aritoto, using the same dynamics in a yuri story: some sort of wager/competition between a normal/average girl (Renako) and a seemingly bright and untouchable girl (Mai), written from the point of view of the former, and with the latter trying to make her fall in love. But the similarities end with volume 1. Starting with volume 2, it throws romance away with the garbage, goes straight into harem territory, and all chararacter buildup flies out the window.

Now this is peak.

Well, maybe not if you like deep, nuanced characters and a complex, finely woven plot. Or hate harems. Traditionally, I dislike harems, but make it yuri, and I'm sold. Combine that with lighthearted comedy and a "literally me" protagonist, and you've got Watanare, my favorite yuri series to date.

Unlike most light novels, Watanare is actually fun to read. Its told from the first person perspective of our harem queen Renako, and let me tell you, she is beyond funny to listen to. Her goofy takes and humor keep the pages turning long after most other series' would have had me close the ...
