Synopsis

Jinna Amakura was a typical, if not a bit stingy, high school boy. Typical, that is, until he died...at least he was supposed to die, but he didn't. Jinna is now considered by the powers that be as a "Soul Irregular."

Enter Nagi who is a Grim Reaper on her first job—to kill Jinna and return his soul to the proper cycle of life and death. If she fails, she will be turned into her favorite dessert and eaten by the head of the Angels of Death. Not only does her job start off as worse as it possibly could, but Nagi and Jinna form an almost friendly, if not unusual relationship...just wait till her boss finds out...

Shinigami to Chocolate Parfait is a story about a guy, Jinna Amakura, that doesn't want to die. The problem is, a Shinigami (Soul Reaper), called Nagi Fuuryuu has to reap his soul, so Jinna can continue the cycle of rebirth. Only Nagi just keeps failing doing this. It's actually extremely funny to see a clumsy shinigami hunting such a "skilled" surviver.

Between the parts were Nagi tries to kill Jinna, you can really feel some kind of weird romance also found in other "romantic" action comedies like Shakugan no Shana or Zero no Tsukaima. They will never say that they love each other, but they will ...

This manga is overall a pretty standard but solid introduction to a larger story. It is standard in the sense that it feels like a pretty generic romcom. There are some interesting concepts, such as a hero that's super stingy, and a heroine that's trying to kill the hero, but for a good reason, that add some flair to the humor that keeps it from getting boring. Still, it does feel a bit slow at times, because while I'm not opposed to side episodes that are used just to give more time to the characters and their relationship without pushing the plot forward in any meaningful way, these side ...
