This series really captures how exhausting just existing can be—waking up, getting through work, dealing with your body breaking down, and all the emotional weight that comes with aging.
Even though I'm a young woman who hasn't gone through menopause, I saw so much of myself in Sawako Honna. Her line, "It feels like my body is falling apart all at once," hit especially hard. matter what path you've taken in life, you will still connect to. You don't have to be a middle-aged woman to enjoy this story!
The story also digs into mortality, beauty standards, and the pressure put on women. It tackles heavy stuff—death, caregiving, being ignored after a certain age, and society's double standards. But it also highlights that friendship can cross generations, and womanhood is complex and deeply shared, even when experiences differ.
If I had one critique, it's the art. The characters don't really look their age, and many of the have similar faces—but that doesn't take away from how powerful and honest the story is. Plus, the art isn't bad by any means, so don't let this deter you from the story!
