Verdict: Torn between 6/10 and 7/10. Awesome art and a very interesting setting that gets dragged down a bit by the inconsistent plot jumps/time skip and some lackluster side characters.
'Kubi Wo...' from the synopsis seems way more fetishist than it really is. Beneath this, it's a historical romantic drama with yes, a lot of nudity, but also a decent plot that makes it a good piece of fiction.
There's plenty of gore (as war becomes the main theme with the manga progressing further; but even before that). If you can't stomach this, stay away. However, I have to say that the art of this manga is
...
glorious. Way above what I expected of a rather niche series like this one.
The series could have been way better if the author handled the time skips and many of the side characters better. There's just way too much time skipping for the manga's length. Some of the chapters/plot jumps were...just there for the sake of it, with nothing building into the plot points. Same for way too many side characters that just appeared with no purpose whatsoever.
The author should have either made this a 70-80 chapter series to build upon them, or cut a solid amount and flesh out the MCs + the main side characters for a bigger dramatic/plot point impact.
Nevertheless, it's a good entry into historical manga that focuses on violence, sex, and honor as main themes. Give it a shot if you're into that.
