Honestly, this one fits my cup of tea more than the original series.
SPOILERS ALERT
In this one, Catarina regained her memories later than in the original so she has less time to prevent her doom. She still has the same personality, of course, but the interactions between her and the other characters are far more interesting and challenging because she also has to pay for her bullying. Remember, Catarina only *regained* her memories. That doesn't mean the old mean Catarina isn't her. So the fact that she has to pay for her being mean adds more depth to our clutzy, bubbly Catarina: it shows that
...
she isn't just kind but also willing to pay for what she did.
Also, we don't see the "Catanrina saves someone and they fell in love with her" thing here. The characters in this serie weren't "saved" by Catarina and they became like their counterparts in the original game, but that doesn't mean they aren't influenced by Catarina. Let's take Keith for example. In the game and in this serie, he was bullied by Catarina and later became a cold, flirtatous guy. When Catarina approuched him, he was all mean and cold and didn't want to interact with her, so she has to come up with ways to approuch him and make up for what she did. Eventually, not only did she manage to apologize, she also helped her parents make up as well. It just feels like her accomplishments are more precious when she put more efforts into it.
That's just my own opinion and preference though please take it with a grain of salt.
