Synopsis

With BL manga as her greatest and only love, Aizawa is destined to be forever alone. All her time not spent in the office is spent fawning over fanart of her favorite pairing, completely wasting her beauty. One day, the goddess of her world, the artist Misumi, announces that she will descend on a comic convention, so off Aizawa goes! When she finds Misumi's booth, what awaits her is...a super cute high school girl?!

This manga is so much more than you think it is. Yes, the premise sounds silly, and it's meant to be. However, the stories of Ai-san (the “Office Lady fujoshi) and Misumi-san (the “god artist high school girl”) are so wonderful and compelling.

Ai-san serves as the primary protagonist that the story follows. She is in her mid-twenties, has a respectable career, and is a total otaku. Ai-san is probably the source of most the laughs throughout with her unhinged –but relatable—otaku rants, but she is also very thoughtful and sincere about the important issues and problems that come her way. I had so many laughs reading this manga, which I enjoyed a lot. The story follows an amateur illustrator developing romantic feelings towards her diehard fan. The story would continue as they try to validate and figure out this newly-found love towards each other, as their relationship seems to be rushed and sounds "too-good-to-be-true".

I like how the author acknowledges that their relationship seems to be rushed (they were truly starstrucked by each other), and then chose to revolve around that topic. I personally picked-up a lot of insights from this manga about myself as I somewhat relate to Aizawa-san as she tries to find ...

Godly Artist High School Girl and Fujoshi Office Lady is not good.

The art, pacing, character designs, comedy, and the overall personality are pretty good, and I assume that's why it's seemingly won a lot of people over. The idea of a relationship between an untalented super fan and an artist who feels inspired by them seems like it should be great, after all. It would be very easy to try not to think too deeply about what's actually going on and just enjoy what's presented uncritically.

The problem is that it's really disgusting and I can't just not see it for what it is.
