[This is my first review, I didn't plan to make any because I am not good at it but this manga definitely needs a review]
[no-spoilers]
Story
The story is basic. Nothing out of the ordinary, it shows the daily life of monster girls who are trying to graduate. There is no incredible events, but I think that is ok because the art and lore are enough. If you are into dense story, Kaibutsu Shoujo Zukan is not for you, the four volumes are basically everyday school life of cute monster girls. I can’t say any more without spoiling but know that the story isn't the best
...
thing of this manga even if it is funny to read and the "end" is ok.
Even if the story is just a succession of litlle events, it doesn't feel empty because you always want to know what is going to happen to them next.
At the end of each school chapters there is a "report of the day", it is supposed to be a scanned report that the professor gives to the principal, you can read all the activities the students did, the comments of the professor and the events of the day. It is particularely funny and it helps getting more in the story, I think it is a really good and suitable idea.
Art
The art is the reason why I started to read this manga. It has the "creepy cute" vibe that I like and is very detailed.
First of all, each characters have its own design which make Kaibutsu Shoujo Zukan really pleasing to read. They all have beautiful face, hair and expressive eyes. The mangaka chose to alternate really well drawn full body panels and chibi-like ones, it adds emotions and life to the story but I think it would be better to have less chibi-like drawings as the detailed ones are insanely good-looking.
Their clothes are also well designed and drawn, I mean you have to see it to understand, even if I know that not everybody likes this type of art and that it is not something completely new either, it definitely worth the reading.
The background is ignored most of the time.. But when it isn't, it is wonderful. There is cute panels with a lot of flowers for example.
There is gore scenes (blood, murders, deaths) so be careful if you don't like it don't read it please, it can be a little disturbing because it totally breaks the "cute" overall atmosphere and comes out of nothing but I think that's what makes this manga funny.
Character
Characters are pretty basics. : cute and childish schoolgirls having fun and fighting over stupid things. The whole starter pack is here, the lazy one, the crazy, the innocent, the "yandere" and so on but they still have a consistent personality so it's ok. The adults of the manga are also cliché but that is not annoying.
There is a lot of characters, so I found it difficult to get attached to them but in an other hand, it was super cool to discover new charadesigns so it didn't bother me at all.
Enjoyment
I liked very much. I laughed and watched the art for a long time. This is the kind of manga that you read when you want to empty your head and have a good time. I enjoyed so much that I bought the 3 volumes in a store and I will buy the fourth (the last) the day it comes out. The strengths of Kaibutsu Shoujo Zukan is the art and the humor, the story is ok to read but really not the best quality of this manga.
You will not like it if you enjoy deep and long mangas with a complex story, you will like it if you enjoy light hearted and aestheticaly pleasing mangas with little to no goal or story, just a little beautiful slice of life of monster girls ♥
[I tried to share my joy about this manga and make you want to read it while staying objective and spoiler-free, thank you for reading c:]
