This Isnt for everyone, I think it targets a fairly niche audience, but if you are part of the audience then you will love this.

Have you ever stayed up late staring into the calmness of the night. Do you ever feel an immense wanderlust when day turns dark? If yes then this is for you.

Ever since I was a kid Ive never wanted to sleep at night. Ive always preffered staying up late. Night owl forever. But at some point down the line I was just absolutely immersed in the peacefulness of the night, the time when youre truly free. Theres a certain type of ... person who wanders the night, and if thats you then welcome to this wonderful story.

At first I didnt think much of this manga, I was mainly attracted to the artstyle (same mangaka as dagashi kashi btw), but boy was I in for a journey. I related to this manga on a deeper level as I saw them explore the night like Ive always wanted.

If you like the night then you should give this a try. It follows the cozy and feel good lighthearted story of 2 people having fun and exploring the night. It touches on themes such as loneliness and being bored with everyday life.

Last thing, I recommend you pull up some music to listen to when reading this. just some chill relaxing stuff.

For like over 70 fucking chapters now its been going a completely different direction about all sorts of boring dogshit. Complete change in the direction of the story. Its become a boring stereotypical shounen over halfway through where in the first quarter there wasn't even a hint of such dogshit showing up.

With the anime adaption about to finish a lot of people will be looking to pickup the manga where the anime left off and are in for a complete shift in the direction of the story. If you're looking for more of the same great story from the anime you are in for a ... bad experience.

maybe there will be 2 good chapter at the end or something.

everything about it is below substandard even watching actual Clouds was more fun than this manga.

the main character sucks the female is a neck bread and cliche everything in general was terrible and the writing only got worse.

call the night is a boring manga with no actual creative writing or tension behind it there are currently 113 chapter and all of them are trash the main character is forgettable he has no motives or interesting back story the plotline sucks and is a boring dumpster fire made for pseudointellectual rage-acholic and all of that can be seen in the first 12 chapters of the manga ... which only get worse as time goes on.

Chapter one to 12 reads as followed main character sneaks out of the house to just generically be out at night then tries to consume beer because of a vending machine not having an id check which I wasn’t 100% on whether that’s how that works but after doing research most machines that serve alcohol require a pass so this plot point is contrived since he should already know this so it seems like the author who is a grown adult (couldn’t figure out the sex) didn’t think that through since they never run into that issue but ultimately it’s not important since a toga clone shows up to try to interact with the main character because “plot” and then they end up at her apartment and bites into his neck but instead of running away or thinking she’s crazy and on drugs, like a normal person would in that situation he comes to the brilliant idea she’s a vampire which indicates he’s inherently delusional and mentally ill.

Now that’s not inherently a bad thing because a story of two mentally ill kids could work if played out right much like most things it’s about being internal with theming and purpose but instead, she is a vampire which was only tangibly indicated in this panel there was another panel that seemed like almost like flying but because the author uses terrible modern manga paneling making the intent is hard to make out, is she flying or is it another pose, angle? the lack of background and the fact she keeps breaking panels doesn’t help.

But personally, it would have been very funny if they jumped together and while monologuing went splat.
The problem here is that she has no reason to interact with him outside of plot convenience which isn’t compelling the main character's only motive so far is “I was harassed by the friends of some girl who asked me out now I hate all women” which is just weak and boring the only other thing is some decent dialog implying he comes from an abusive home but the author doesn’t elaborate on this leaving him as just an edge lord with no reason to want to be a vampire other than a power fantasy to be one so he can out at night forever.
now talking about the girl her personality and dialog early on implies she’s mature but she isn’t and will act like an edgy 13-year-old and or female neck bread and acts extremely petty and stupid “these” panels pretty much highlight the type of writing wherein for going forward.
As you can see both lead characters are uninteresting then there are the plot lines, so the first bit of any conflict in the story is a childhood best friend showing up and the vampire girl suddenly acting like an over-attached petty loser.
So, as you can tell the first storyline is itself a cliché in romance with no real unique idea going on a random childhood friend appears and makes the main love interest jealous so overdone then they all sleep together this is so garbage and they do this multiple times it’s absolutely boring just write a hentai and be done with it why make a story this brain dead oh! On that note the art is fetishistic, the writer primally seems to only be alive because he made softcore porn for 13-year-olds and weirdo’s to avoid being canceled again for having no writing talent (and that's pretty much modern manga and anime as a whole) it’s pretty easy to notice how reliant he is on echi panels to keep those 2-inch dicks happy since we all know anyone thinking with a brain would drop this instantly this page highlights what I’m talking about this scene in context is boring it has no reason to exist it’s just the author trying to justify drawing echi when the page and story its self are boring this could have easily been cut but instead it’s highlighted because the author wants to use sex appeal to sell his boring story since his writing skills are none existent.

Now there’s a huge difference between stories that just have sex appeal going on but still have good writing and those that don’t for instance even if all the sex in berserk was cut it would still have a solid plotline you can get behind but the sex has relevance to the story and unlike the call of the night it’s not some virgin cringe story sex in berserk has relevance to setting mode and tone with called by the night it’s just a cheap gimmick to keep what little people are reading willing to engage more than they should despite the characters all being trash and plot being none existent.

So that’s the first 12 chapters in a nutshell then the next 12 are more of the same but they introduce some lady that wants to quite her job becouse she hates working there and they just do not execute this properly it’s cringe and feels boring we don’t see what her work conditions are and the whole mental breakdown while I get it feels more like a cheap way to force emotional gratification with the whole end message being “I’ll quite being human and make you a vampire to” so cringe then all toga clones family shows up and we get a whole 2 chapters of exposition dumps before leaving this was just boring also the manga has terrible fight scenes no idea why the author would add them if he’s going to be bad at writing them there’s no tension or sense of impact complete trash.

After that is just more slice of life telling me this manga has no idea what it wants to be about other than wish fulfillment and fanservice I have no idea how this was not canceled within the first 12 chapters and before you say to keep reading it still get’s worse going forwards there are no themes, no narrative, and any theme it could go into it doesn’t want to explore the main character doesn’t feel human he feels like an analogue for the target demographic of edge lords it wants to appeal to.

it’s just standard shonen trash I just don’t want to write more then this becouse it would turn into a 2 hour cobble of going over a manga I hate I’m just making this before the anime get’s out and people with bad taste hype it up more than it deserves despite being boring trash that only get’s by from it’s fanservice and appealing to people with no personality also before anyone says “western perspective” the Japanese made fun of this shit for being trash to and where way more harsh then the west was it is fundamentally a bad manga and I hope it get’s cancelled to stop other trash authors from trying this type of stuff ever again.
