What happens when you try to integrate unnecessary drama into a wholesome romance and slice of life? Well, it is a strange combination for sure, but that is what NecroMaid is.
NecroMaid is a manga that had an extremely promising beginning for a slice of life manga, with elements of romance and cooking. The setting at the start was nice, the characters are very charming, and the world is pretty enjoyable. There's really nothing much to complain about it, especially with how much positive vibes the manga had been emitting.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't have made a review if that was all there's to it. For some inexplicable

reason, the author of NecroMaid decided that the manga needed more depth, and therefore added a villain out of the blue. This was fine and decently executed, but still felt unnecessary. It also doesn't help that the pacing of the manga gets weird during this arc, with the romance between the two main characters seemingly forced, and abrupt drama appearing here and there.
These issues would've been fine if the author turned back and continued the slice of life, but no, they doubled down on this drama and added another villain. It is during this time where the manga starts to become a mess, with bunch of questionable decisions made by the characters which lead to confusing, contrived plot advancements. The story during this point feels like it has lost its direction, and now is just grasping at the nearest ledge in order to stay coherent. The ending, although not necessarily bad, was still left much to be desired.
Overall, NecroMaid is an interesting manga with a promising start, but with unfortunate series of decisions, had a great downfall and end up losing a majority of reasons it was charming in the first place. I would only recommend this to those who seek to kill time, but even then, it wouldn't be my first picks.
