This manga chronicles the experiences of the Soviet women who fought on the front lines, on the home front, and in the occupied territories. These women—more than a million in total—were nurses and doctors, pilots, tank drivers, machine-gunners, and snipers. They battled alongside men, and yet, after the victory, their efforts and sacrifices were forgotten.

War's Unwomanly Face is a rare gem in the Manga firmament and a good example of how powerful a graphic work can be.

Story: Based on a work which is internationally acclaimed by a Nobel Prize winner which have been pared down to simple, gentle tales of the brutal face of war. Chapters tend to deal with individual women with the experience of the interviewer interwoven with the narrative. 10/10

Art: A nice simple style that works well. Whilst faces are a little generic there is enough detail in the environments to convince and the 'Manga' style helps the tales feel accessible. 7/10

Characters: Painfully real. 10/10

Enjoyment: I read more

Each arc brings a series of heart-wrenching stories. The suffocating atmosphere of war hangs over every chapter like a bad omen, and as you progress, you begin to better understand its true nature. Dozens of nameless characters appear and disappear, and the story constantly reminds you that these were real people, young men and read more

The first 3 chapters might feel weak but from the 4th chapter onwards everything is brutal

You can start reading from any chapter as each chapters give different testimonials which don't correlate with each other

A must read for WW2 fans, remember this manga is non-fiction, everything you have read, happened
