The primary focus of these tend to be romance, family or other relationships. There may be a subplot, or an occasional serious scene here and there, but the vast majority of the manga is wholesome and adorable!

If a series does not portray an average depiction of high school, then it appeals to the emotional vulnerability that captures most people at this point in life. A few of these can be a tad bit on the dramatic side (i.e. potentially unrealistic to some) but teenagers CAN be dramatic so it felt fitting!

Romance stories to warm and heal your heart

Here are some of the best shoujosei mangas I've read so far. Most of them are school romance with comedy and/or drama. I did also include two classics of the magical girl genre and some with minor fantasy/ supernatural themes but no "real" fantasy mangas apart from that.

These shoujo mangas were the representation of shoujo demographic back then, mostly around 2007~2015 (the golden era).
There could be more if this is not an only-shoujo-not-josei stack and older ones (00s).
The last three is somewhat newer manga but made some impact and/or just straight up really good ones.

❤️ Riftan Calypse x Maximilian Calypse
• i'm down bad for him but ngl he's kind of a red flag
• he has major anger issues, extremely possessive and overprotective over maxi
• BUT he's so hot that i became colour blind to the red flags
• and when he's not being big scary angry lord/knight man, he's actually the sweetest and most caring and loving husband ever
+ was adapted from a novel (the manhwa doesn't include actual smut scenes but if ya'll want it, read the novel... it's hella explicit)

Depths of Malice [악의의 농도] - manhwa; josei
❤️ Blaine Shade x Verta Alberhart
• toxic couple alert lol but they deserve each other
• the main plot for this one revolves around verta's quest for revenge. romance is a bit like an afterthought and only really shows in the later parts of the story
• but i love blaine because of his loyalty and dedication to verta
• he doesn't care that she's hellbent on ruining people's lives and is more than willing to aid her in it if it meant she would look his way

Destined to Love You [偏偏宠爱] - manhua; shoujo
❤️ Jiang Ren x Meng Ting
• disclaimer: this story has a very inaccurate portrayal of bipolar disorder
• classic bad boy good girl trope but i love it
• jiang ren is so set on pursuing her despite her numerous rejections that he keeps working on himself to become a man that's good enough for her- studies harder, drops his bad habits like smoking and drinking, etc.
• deep down, he has a ton of insecurities even though he appears to be cocky on the surface

Only for Love [错撩] - manhua; shoujo
❤️ Shi Yan x Zheng Shu Yi
• a successful couple who loves to watch each other succeed
• tons of miscommunication and misunderstandings between the two at the start but when they finally settle down and fully trust each other, their bond is so strong and beautiful
• Shi Yan can be loving but in all honesty, he takes himself too seriously that i cannot fantasize about being with someone like him- i mean i know he's the way that he is because of his upbringing and position but he's not for me. i love him and shu yi together so much tho
