When someone is summoned to another world it's always a Japanese citizen, usually a man. But this time a demon king from a fantasy world is summoned to a different fantasy world. Mind = Blown
Story: Okay so despite the typical fantasy event of summoning someone, this story is surprisingly original. Seriously. A man known as the ruler of demons, eater of children and of destroyer of cities, is summoned to another world by a woman being attacked by a goblin. They fall in love and thus this romantic story begins. *chuckle* The protagonist is ridiculously strong and he could take over the world (probably), but
...
he simply wants to have a normal family life. Wife, children, maybe a cute pet. That's the dream, for the former demon king.
I personally loved this introduction to a new world. There's no boring arc about introducing new technology, since the protagonist is not from Japan. There won't be any game-like interfaces with stats and levels or stuff like that. It's an authentic fantasy story, because the protagonist is not a Japanese gamer so there's no need for it. That small detail, "not from our world" made the protagonist and this story so much more interesting. He was the strongest demon in his world, and now he has the potential to become the strongest hero, or strongest adventurer, maybe just being an overprotective father is enough? That's the whole point. We can learn about his new life in a new world where he doesn't have to be feared, instead he can be loved. "Why Shouldn't a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love?!"
Art: The art is good, but not great. The wife is supposed to be "drop dead gorgeous" but honestly she looks a bit mediocre. The protagonist looks a bit too human (considering he should be a scary demon), he just have horns. At least add some shark teeth or something... As long as you don't think too hard about it, the illustrations are good enough.
Characters: The protagonist is a bit too nice considering he should have been feared by everyone in his old world. While the Heroine is a bit too fast at falling in love. I'm sure it was to progress the story and jump into the "family building" setting early on. But there is a lot to be wanted. But they are indeed likable characters, the relationship is perfect and even the sub-plot characters are well made. As long as you don't hate "love at first sight" you should have no problem.
Overall, this story is great. But there is a big focus on relationships and family bonding. There will probably be more and more big stuff happening as the story goes forward (trying not to spoil), but this story is still about romance and humor. I believe anyone that likes fantasy (real fantasy! Not isekai!) should be able to enjoy this story.
I would rate this an 8. But the first volume was like, really short. Maybe there was a reason for it. But I'm a man that can't love a 90 minute movie, even if the movie was good. And by that I also can't love a light novel if the volumes are too short. That is the one reason I'm only giving it a 7: Good.
