After the huge success that was Hoshi-iro Girldrop and Hoshi-iro Girldrop: The Movie, it was necessary to produce more works to profit from the franchise. It's in this scenario that Hoshi-iro Girldrop: Comic Anthology anthology appears, one of the manga industry's most ambitious projects, summoning legends such as Osamu Tezuka, Go Nagai, and Junji Ito to produce a series of disconnected stories in the rich universe of Hoshi-iro...
But seriously, Hoshi-iro Girldrop: Comic Anthology is one of the most interesting ideas that has ever passed through the manga world. The concept of producing a compilation of stories based on a Pop Team Epic meta joke is
...
something that fascinates me (although the opening segment of the first episode of Pop Team Epic and the "disinformation" campaign were also very impressive and a little bold to be realized).
Being an anthology it is hard to judge the story aspect, but in general each one of them is very entertaining and some even expand the original meta joke idea. The selected authors really knew what they were doing and even though they aren't big names in the industry some are well known and loved.
About the art, it's a matter of personal taste, because as each story has a different author, the artistic aspect varies a lot (some try to replicate how the manga would look if it were real and others simply make the drawings more simplified to focus on a more comical aspect).
In the end I loved the manga, even though there are better anthologies on the market and there are some stories that I didn't like very much, this anthology has a special place in my opnion due to its peculiarities and very funny moments.
P.S. In my opinion the best chapters are those made by Fakkuma, Hatopopoko, bkub, Imai Tetsuya and Romancing Abe
