(Warning: Slight bit of spoiler"
Have you been reading Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san and get tired of the lack of romantic progress? Wondering if the couple will ever get a happy life forever after, so that you have to use your rarely functioning brain to come up with how their life looks like in the future? Fear not, Yamamoto-sensei does that for you instead.
Set in more than ten years in the future, Takagi and Nishikita has already built up a young family with their daughter - Chii, the story follows the daily life of the family with Chii being the center of their activities. (Hol' up,
so they're ALL Nishikita now, but you get what I mean).
The plot is simple, but enjoyable. Still full of pranks by Takagi and amusing reactions coming from Nishikita and now, Chii. BUT you get to see Takagi and Nishikita being together as husband and wife. I mean isn't that the major purpose of you reading this spin-off?
Simple but full of live. Not some mess of a manga page, exactly like how you expect Yamamoto-sensei would draw.
Oh come on, of course the characters will get 9/10. They acts exactly how they were in their school days. But now you get to see Chii with her dad's reaction face.
A light slice of life which will ease your mind and heart after a day of hard work and studying (unless you're a NEET, then I'd doubt you've actually read or intended to read this manga at all)
You get what you expected from a spin-off of a romantic slice of life manga. Nothing much to be said about except: "AAAAAWWWWWW."
Disclaimer: This is my first manga review, feel free to ignore this if the way I write disturbs you. (Oh and, spoilers ahead for all of you still watching/reading the original series.)
As I found out fairly recently about the anime, I decided to read up on the spinoff/sequel of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-San and found myself hooked to this gem of a manga. At the time of writing this I've read only 24 chapters from wherever I could find it, so take it with a grain of salt as this can be easily read within the hour.
Story: 7/10 (good)
As it is just about the
interactions of a caring and loving family, there isn't really much story to be told apart from the antics and teasing that reside in the Nishikata household. As it's a spinoff one does not really need to read/watch the manga or anime respectively to understand what's going on. Nothing more I can say, it captures the story of a fun, loving family very well.
Art: 8/10 (very good)
Was just as good as the previous manga, if not better. From what I can tell on this website this is from a different mangaka, but has still managed to capture the essence and bright style of the original.
Characters: 8/10 (very good)
As expected, Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san retains what I and a whole lot of other people loved from the previous installment, and includes the same Nishikata and Takagi we all know and love, acting very much the same, with the exception of being parents. Chii, their daughter, is also a welcome addition to the cast. She's isn't too moe in-your-face cute type of daughter, but provides the perfect blend of naughtiness and young innocence.
Enjoyment: 9/10 (great)
Reading this manga to me was like taking a very hot and well-deserved bath, without the obvious downsides to taking one. It's a very, very nice change of pace from all the shonen/drama manga/anime I've been looking at recently, and honestly made me longing to experience what the characters in the manga were experiencing.
Final Verdict: 8.5/10 (really good)
After all the slow-paced romance and fast-paced action I've been watching recently, Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san was like a breath of fresh air. To me there was almost nothing more relaxing and heartwarming seeing the interactions between mother, father, and daughter joking around with each other and having a good time. If you're here today to find a manga that's lighthearted, fun, and doesn't leave you with any suspense, you've come to the right place.
The reason I didn't give this a maximum 10/10 is because it would've been nice to see some change in character. This is an extremely heartwarming piece and it definitely tugs on the heartstrings but it's mostly the same shenanigans with Takagi pranking now husband Nishikata as well as their daughter Chi. It's been ten years so I hoped that there would be some development, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The art is simple and cute as it always has been, and the story is the same slice of life style as the original. Its main purpose seems to be to give the two the
happy ending that we all expected to see, although it does feel like you've been blue-balled since you don't get to see the actual developments leading to the milestones (eg when they start dating, or their first kiss, or marriage etc).
If you have seen them as kids, this is 100000xs adorable!! There daughter Chi is so cute and takes up both the parents personality, the only real bummer for me is Nishikata is still a damn...I don't think he wears the pants in this marriage XD a lot of moments where he can take charge or at least tease Takagashi but nope...same old damn kid!! But other than that its great! And some old friends make an appearance so Yey!
Would really also like it if they show the parents, have Chi visit them, or even classmates and there kids, but maybe too soon? Again
its a really great read, funny and adorable!! Highly recommend it :)
