Synopsis

Hayama Kao yearns for an existence that would make people notice her. Even in her final year of middle school when she confessed to the boy she liked for three years, he couldn't even recall her name.

Now in high school, she is working as a temporary manager of her school's boys volleyball club against her will. Kao's older brother, an alumnus, currently a teacher and the advisor of the club, placed the responsibility on her shoulders to recruit Kuze Nagisa for the volleyball club if she wanted to quit being the manager.

Even though silently observing someone as dazzling as Kiryuu in the club is the only redeeming thing about being the manger, Kao's body aches. She is at her limit and wants to quit being the manager. But no matter how much effort she puts on recruiting Kuze she simply cannot convince him to join. Then one day, she notices something that took her breath away. It was bluer than the sky, even bluer than the sea; it was Kuze Nagisa practicing volleyball all on his own.

Very light-reading, feel-good manga. It's got a good mix of drama and seriousness, lots of comedy, and a surprising range of deep emotions. I will say that the beginning is a bit slow and repetitive, but, if you give it a few chapters, things do start to pick up.

The story itself is pretty good. Nothing fantastic, but it was complex enough that the narrative gave readers multiple threads to keep up with and follow. Additionally, it added some depth to characters in an otherwise fairly straightforward story.

Mixed Feelings
Okay simple way to review this, it was generic. It's mid. Nothing really special.

But I just really read this cause one it was completed, I didn't wanna wait for updates so if you're looking for a shoujo manga that's rich in plot, this isn't it.

The female lead was dense as fck. Literally the 2 guys are giving all the signs in the world that they like her but she couldn't get the point.

I feel like Houkago, Koishite is one of the most generic shoujo I've ever read, and I've read quite a lot. Shoujo are often not terribly original, and as a fan, I'm not necessarily looking for originality, but I feel like Houkago, Koishite has nothing to distinguish it at all. The characters don't feel to me like characters so much as very generic character archetype blank slates that are there just to hit all the right beats at all the right times, in order to follow the extremely route shoujo formula.
