Again, she knows how to draw them bishies well. Dig in if you like mangas where the artwork takes on a dream like qaulity and elegant tales come to life. Ouji consists of three short stories, all of which have similar-ish plots but execute them differently and always include enough tender moments to keep our hearts going doki doki!
Passionate Erotica: My personal favourite. Rika was confessed to by a future bishi four years ago but he... well... turned out to be a little unready for her apprently. Now in 11th, he's popular with the ladies in the classroom, but she overhears him telling a rather
...
compromising secret to his friends. How can she not use this against him? How can she not make him her personal harem boy to do with as she pleases after this?! But why is he unexpectedly thoughtful and why is he rejecting advances of other girls trying to take him by force on the school balcony?! Hahah, you have to read it if only for the tender moment a strawberry milk drink brings.
Sweet kiss? Check. Heartwrenching moment where hero shows his vulnerable side? Check Check! Unexpected embaressing rain walk where mutual mistrust is erased and future relationship pledged? Checkity Check! It's clear there's a mild amount of character development involved here, especially from the heroine's side, which is refreshing as the hero isn't made out to be a dimbulb for once, only shy and unsure. The story makes reaffirms your faith in first love which is what good shoujo is all about!
Ouji Romantica: While this too had a couple to sweet scenes, it didn't resonate too much with me because both characters are already in a fake relationship because they're apparently tired of getting confessed to everyday and they both agree it's convinient to "be together" rather than face more confessions. But they seem like a good couple to the outsiders, and to keep up appearances, one must spend time together. Hmm now what future scenarios could that entail and why does Rinko's heart go doki doki when Shirou holds her hands in private?
The backgrounds and expressions are done superbly here which add to the emotionally charged scenes. Both characters learn more about each other and themselves over the progress of the story and mature. There is no unnecessary cattiness even though the same situation could warrant it in another manga. Tender scenes-a-plenty along with cocky dialogue delivery make for a vibrant mood in this story.
Prince, Kiss and Sleeping Beauty: A very very VERY cute story idea. The author probably could have made a couple more chapters out of this one. Our resident heroine Shiya faints at the touch of a boy. Enter class "prince" who Shiya enlists to help her deal with this awkward phobia. But why should this in-demand commodity take time out of his packed social schedule to help her? What's in it for him? Will they be able to kiss if she faints when he touches her? Will he lift her and take her home or to the park? Will they live happily ever after?! They don't need to, they're just in high school, but it's an entertaining read anyway!
Novel plot as well as innocent characters lend this story credibility. There is plenty of humour in the scenes where Prince tries to psychoanalyise Shiya out of her predicament, as well as subtle development to show how they come to depend on each other, but not explicitly. The hero's mushy side comes through in a scene or two as does Shiya's martyr instinct. Well thought out and entertaining story about tribulations in life and love.
