Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! is one of those comedy manga that I think almost everyone can find something that will make them laugh and relate without having the need to rely in pointless cringe drama. I suggest to everyone loves dirty humour, cynical enough to notice some details of the humour .... and doesn't get offended by drawings of some characters on paper. Let me tell you what I liked and disliked as someone who adores comedy and hopefully I can convince you to at least give it a chance but before I begin let me warn you that this is a 4-koma
...
manga so if that's not your thing, you may not like it but I still urge you to try it out. Anyway... let's begin:
Pros:
- ''Story''. Yeah, there is not story and instead we get to see the everyday life and interactions of some really odd characters. Yeah... this is not something amazingly ''new'' as you would expect, however I like the fluidity the mangaka has given that it keeps you interested enough to keep reading and more chapters.
- Comedy/Jokes. I should have added this category in the story but I wanted to highlight something. This is NOT a gag manga. So don't expect jokes every time a character finishes breathing. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love gag manga but Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! is a slice of life manga with comedy as it's focus. The same jokes are not repeated on every panel but what I personally think Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! does it's best is how unexpected some comedic events are. This is not a spoiler review so I won't get into details and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the comedy here always keeps me entertained and even if I don't laugh sometimes I always smile while reading the manga.
- Characters. I am very happy to report that the main male character called Mizunoe Ume is NOT A DENSE PIECE OF ..... , anyway you get my point. He is not perfect of course but I personally think Ume and the other characters are very well written and don't rely on cliché but expand beyond them which additionally contributes to the fluidity and amusement of the plot.
Ecchi elements: I love the ecchin elements on the manga and by elements I mean character designs, jokes, story events etc. If you are easily offended the EXIT door is on your left, take the stairs (keep a eye on your I back because I may want to push you and you are gonna see the final door on your right, bye bye)
Cons(these are heavily opinion focused dislikes unlike the the pros so don't take them too seriously):
- This kinda difficult to explain without spoiling but let me say this. Remember when I said that Ume is not a perfect character? Well this is because sometimes he acts like he has amnesia or may appears like he doesn't care that x happened with the y character after 1 chapter that event happened. You may see this ''problem'' with other characters too but it is not as problematic as Ume's. And again, sometimes. Not always.
- I know this will sound random and stupid but Uhm .... some chapters feel short and useless. There some nothing chapters that should have been added as additional panels for other characters.
- Otori Tan
In conclusion, What I personally love about the mangka here is how cultured and unhinged can be without being afraid which is vital in comedy stories. Truly a chad!!! Is this the best book ever made (not you, my imaginary friend. Schizophrenia in my 20s)? Yes... Dostoevsky level of quality. But seriously, I hope you have a great time with this manga. Stay safe.
